From today's Orange County Register: Nothing frightful about the gathering for the 95th annual Anaheim Halloween Parade! For the 95th year the Anaheim community gathered for the Halloween Parade. The parade, which had waned in popularity in the last few decades, has made a resurgence the last several years. Neighbors lined the streets in downtown, many in their own costumes, to watch as floats, marching bands, community leaders and others passed by. In 1955, Andy Anaheim dressed up as Davy Crockett for the annual Halloween Festival, complete with rifle and "coonskin" hat. 1955 was a big year for Anaheim, with Disneyland's grand opening just three months prior. Festival planners invited Walt Disney to be Grand Marshal of the Halloween Parade (on horseback, no less), but Walt was unable to attend and expressed his regrets in a letter from his studio office in Burbank.
