Hi there! I'm considering getting a puppy sometime soon and was thinking about a mini aussie. What's your experience been with the breed? I'll be entering my senior year of college, and was hoping to get a companion dog for myself and my boyfriend to help alleviate his depression. I was concerned about the amount of exercise they require though and that it would need to be alone for 6 hours one day a week. Let me know what you think of the breed if you get a chance!
First off, lemme tell ya, I L O V E Aussies!!!! They are a fantastic breed however you do need to really make sure you could care for one properly. They do need exercise, both mentally and physically, and generally they love to be around their people and hate to be alone. I wouldn’t suggest getting an aussie if you’re a first time dog owner or if you haven’t really researched and come up with a training plan and such before getting one.
But as for helping with depression and such they are really sensitive dogs and they really bond with their humans and needing physical and mental stimulation can be great when you’re trying to fight against depression.
These dogs are bred to work. They definitely need to have some sort of job they can do in order to stay happy and they need lots of training (but they’re generally easy to train). Aussies are cute and spunky and have so much personality and smarts but they are definitely not for everyone.
I would suggest watching this video and then doing some more research to see if an aussie would work for you. :) I’m also here if you have more specific questions (I’m just terrible at coming up with lots of info lol) so feel free to send me another ask or even a message! :D
