kuroo tetsurō had no other emotion to describe what he was feeling except for the word gobsmacked. after you’d so casually crashed the conversation that he and akaashi were having (about his crush on you), only to propose that he practice his dating skills ON YOU, every working brain cell he owned ceased to exist.
two things had been established during this conversation. one was that he liked you far too much to ignore it any longer. the other was that you were wholly oblivious and didn’t realize this fact. neither the fact that he liked you, or the fact that this…situationship was clearly an issue.
to make matters worse, you thought he liked someone else, which was a total joke in his opinion. considering how much time he spent around you, there couldn’t be anybody else.
jokes on him though. he’s sitting on the rug of your dorm room, eyes looking into yours as you smirk at him mischievously.
“so,” you hum, “tell me about them. your crush.”
he watches your eyes light up at this, your lips quirking up into that tell tale smile he loved so much. he thought for just a moment, how easy to would be to lean up and kiss you. surely that’d kill this limbo.
“i like them,” he sighed, “i have for quite a while. if anything, i thought i was obvious. i just can’t tell what they feel for me.”
you nod, sinking onto your knees to join him on the floor. “okay. so they’re oblivious. is there a chance you’re too subtle?”
kuroo’s eyes, golden and ever so beautiful, locked onto you with a look that screamed “seriously?”
“okay,” you sighed. “let’s go on a practice date.”
he rose a brow amusedly, doing his best to hide the way his heart did a somersault in his chest. “when? and where?”
“i mean there’s that cute italian spot downtown,” you suggested, “good options and price. it’s also fancy enough to count as a date rather than one of our hangouts.”
“sounds good,” he nodded, stilling when he saw your eyes expectantly cling to him. “what’s with that look?”
“you didn’t ask me out,” you pouted, “how are you supposed to bag if you don’t even ask.”
you huffed, doing your absolute best to handle the nerves in your chest. this wasn’t a real date. hell, it was simply a selfish effort to see how kuroo could be as a boyfriend before you sent him off with who he really liked.
he exhaled slowly, taking your hands in his and running his fingers slowly over your knuckles. you watched him trace a pattern you could quite place, feeling your face heat up when he finally looked back at you.
“are you free this friday?” he asked, voice smooth as he continued to hold your hands, “because if you are, i’d like to take you out.”
“i’m free,” you gulped, struggling to reconcile the tired man who crashed in your dorm after volleyball after parties with the man in front of you. “i’d like that.”
“be ready at six,” he smiled, reaching to press his lips to the back of your hand. you could feel him smile softly against the back of it, your head spinning from the contact.
since when was he so touchy?
“good job,” you mumbled, “i’m sure your crush would fold for that kind of approach.”
“you think?” he smirked, “well i’d hope so.“
you nod, watching him stand and offer a hand to you to hoist you up.
he moved towards the door, the most shit eating grin on his face. “dress well enough to kill me by the way! i want to be derailed by how good you look. it's no fun if i'm the only one derailing the person i have a crush on.”
he chuckled, closing the door behind him and leaving you standing there, slackjawed.
what. did he just say? no way. he was just messing with you….right?

"That's docohexaenoic acid to you!"
~
"Oh my god, how are you so stupid?" The rooster-haired male groaned, one hand massaging his temples as he fought to stay sane—a difficult battle, especially against your idiocy.
You pouted, but honestly, you were just as disappointed in yourself. You let your head fall face first onto your chem homework. You were currently sitting in front of your desk, while he stood beside you, despite the perfectly stable stool right next to him.
Kuroo had begun this tutoring session at ten this morning—it was now three, and you were only halfway through the second page. Your boyfriend's patience was clearly fraying, seeing as he stopped making jokes an hour ago and started explaining it in a softer tone like that would make you understand. The quiet sighs told you everything you needed to know.
Kuroo was a chemistry major, and though his classes and dorm were on the other side of campus, he still made his way to you every day. Because honestly, you'd fail without him. You thought minoring chemistry would mean fun explosions. And boy were you so, so wrong. You didn't speak elements of the periodic table, and unfortunately for you, it seemed every equation was written in those random letter combinations with small numbers underneath.
"Earth to Y/n,"
You snapped out of your pitying-yourself state as a hand snapped in front of you. Your eyes trailed the muscular arm back to your boyfriend's face. Even if Kuroo wasn't going pro in volleyball, he sure knew how to keep the body for it.
Meanwhile, Mr. Bed Hair sighed louder than before, his calloused hands gripping your shoulders lightly as he shook you. "Baby, oi. Quit zoning out!" he scolded. You groaned, swatting him away, but he only caught your hand in his. With a quieter sigh, he rubbed his thumb over your knuckles, thinking for a moment. Then, he let go of your shoulder, and with that free hand, he picked up your chemistry work again, taking a seat beside you (on the previously unused stool). Meanwhile, you played with his other hand. Anything to try and distract him. Too bad for you;
"Y/n, your formula for this—"
Yeah. You stopped listening the second he said "formula". You could tell he knew what he was talking about, though, even if you had no clue. The only chemistry you remembered were those corny ass pick-up lines he loved to use on you in high-school. He still used them, but with how busy college made you two, it wasn't as easy as stopping in front of your locker and wooing you with a dorky line.
You didn't know when he noticed you weren't listening, not until you suddenly felt yourself lifted from your seat. You yelped, eyes wide, as Kuroo lifted you bridal style in his arms. Apparently, some time between when he said "formula" and when you snapped to attention, he had stood up. And now you were coming with him. Your hands held onto his neck for dear life—not because you were worried you were too heavy for him, but because you wouldn't be surprised if he dropped you, seeing how annoying you were probably being.
He tossed you in the air once as you cried out. Then, with a small, smug grin, he dropped you onto your bed. You settled after one bounce, glaring at him. He only chuckled, sitting beside where he dropped you and pulling you onto his lap before you could protest. He buried his face in your neck. Your annoyance was replaced by that familiar guilt you felt whenever he tutored you. You never seemed to understand it, no matter how hard he tried. You weren't dumb, it's just your brain wasn't built for the complex world of chemistry like his was.
You knew he was getting tired of explaining it to you. You knew you were being too much right now.
"Baby, stop with that look on your face," he said, suddenly squeezing your face together with one hand, making your cheeks squish like a chipmunk. He snorted at the sight of it. You only pushed his hand away, "What look?" You asked. His hands traced shapes on your waist as he gazed up at you.
"That guilty one. Like you're doing something wrong," he said, kissing your forehead. "You should've told me you weren't listening. We've been at it for hours, we could've just taken a break," he murmured, running one hand through his hair, like he was also blaming himself for not noticing. You replaced his hand with your own, messing up his natural bedhead even more. He playfully scowled, though he leaned into your touch anyway.
"I swear, though, you're gonna kill me one day," Kuroo said in a sigh, exasperated as he caught your wrist, pressing a kiss to your pulse and pressing holding it against his face. You were visibly getting flustered—never used to his casual affection, despite being together for years now—you still felt those butterflies erupt in your stomach. He smiled, poking your cheek with the hand that wasn't holding your wrist.
"Cute," he teased, his usual grin back. "Oh, shut up, you..." You grumbled. He gasped, letting go of your wrist to place a hand over his heart dramatically, while the other now held your hip.
"You? I've been demoted so much that now my name is you!?" He said, with such conviction, you were regretting skipping past that theater audition poster. He would've been a great actor.
"You're dragging it,"
"Oh, so what I'm hearing is I'm too dramatic and you don't love me anymore?"
"That's not what I—"
"So you don't love me anymore?"
"Tetsu."
"There we go," he broke out in a grin, poking your annoyed expression until it eased into a soft smile.
"You're such a dork," you murmured, grateful anyway as you kissed his cheek. His grin widened at the kiss, beaming like a dog with a treat. "Your dork, though."
"Yeah, yeah, all mine," you mused, not even hiding the smile on your lips. He kissed the corner of it and you turned your lips to catch his own. The kiss was brief, but the moment lingered, filling the two of you with a certain warmth that you never realized you missed so much.
"It's been so long..." you start, and his eyes softened. It truly had been too long. Classes at different times and places in campus kept you two apart, it was practically a long distance relationship... only you two were in the same area, just not together or able to interact at all. Kuroo let the sentimental mood stick for a bit—unusual for him. He kissed your forehead, then your cheek, and then your lips again before breaking out into a grin once more. "You know what else I haven't done in forever?" He asked with a mischievous grin. You groaned.
"..."
"Come on, ask me,"
"I'm scared..."
"Don't be,"
"If you say something stupid, I'm smacking you,"
"You'll smack me anyway,"
"...Fine, I'll bite. What else haven't you done in forever?"
"Tell you that you're definitely made of Fluorine, Iodine and Neon,"
You blinked, too confused to smack him.
"...What?"
He rolled his eyes, but gently nudged you,
"Ask me why,"
"...Why?"
He grinned.
"Because you're F-I-Ne as hell," he said with a grin. Your mouth twisted in a mix of cringe and adoration. "I feel like you've told me that one before," you finally said. He raised an eyebrow, frowning, "Oh, have I? I have another one rea—" "No, no, I think I'm okay!" You covered his mouth with both of your hands. His frown turned into a small smile against your palm. You quickly retracted your hands before he could do something stupid like lick it.
"But still, you're fine as hell. Look at you, gorgeous," he said, rubbing circles on your waist. You could feel heat rising to your face. Just to push it more, he gazed at you with those eyes, "How did I ever score someone like you? Damn funny too..."
You tried to find your voice, but the most you could manage was; "Just... shut up,"
He chuckled. "Kiss me silent," he murmured against your ear, which only made you more flustered. He grinned at your reaction, kissing the tip of your now bright red ear. You twisted to move away.
"Oh my god, fine, just—" your lips met his in a sudden kiss that quickly melted. He adjusted you on him and tilted your head so your noses wouldn't stop you, deepening the kiss. What started as a brief kiss quickly turned into something more intimate. He kissed you like he was starved of it—and honestly? He might as well have been, especially with how busy assignments had made you two. Kiss after kiss, every time you pulled away for air, he'd chase you,
"Mm... baby, don't pull away,"
"Just one more and then I'll let you catch your breath,"
"Come on, five more minutes..."
"It's been too long, can you blame me?"
By the time he let you go, you swore you were on the verge of passing out (you were exaggerating, according to him). Luckily for you, his phone buzzed on the table, which successfully ruined the mood (you weren't happy about that), but at least you could breathe now (your lungs were overjoyed).
With his shoulder as your pillow, you both gazed at his phone. His hand brushed circles onto your waist, while the other scrolled through his phone. You watched him open stupid snaps from Bokuto, mostly bad quality pictures that you couldn't even recognize anyone in, except the random blur of orange which you knew had to be Shoyo.
Suddenly, Kuroo stopped scrolling. You raised an eyebrow as he turned his phone off.
"The chemistry work," he said, like he just remembered. You internally groaned.
"No, we did enough for today," you tried to tug him back. He didn't let you pull him closer, though he didn't pull away. "Isn't that packet due tomorrow?" He deadpanned. You swallowed.
"Okay, okay, fine..."
He pulled you up, guiding you back to your desk. You stood in front of it. His hand was just reaching for the packet when you spoke,
"But first—"
He raised an eyebrow, hand frozen mid-air, eyes reading over your expression like he was figuring out if this was something serious or you just stalling. You swallowed.
"One more kiss?"
That dorky smile lit up his face again as he tugged you close.
"Of course, my little nucleus,"
"What's that mean?"
"Well, what's the nucelus of an atom?"
"The center?"
"Exactly."
"...I don't get it."
"You're the center of my world,"

Does anyone know of a fic of Kuroo x reader where it's timeskip Kuroo working and meeting foreign reader where both of them become really good coworkers that push each farther and father to the point where they start developing feelings for one another coming to a point where Kuroo can no longer hide his feelings and has to tell reader before reader leaves to what he thinks is a permanent trip back to wherever reader is from when really it's reader just going home to see family...? If there is anything like that I'm beggin you please SEND IT MY WAY. I am rewatching Haikyuu and ofc I am in love with this man all over again (been in love since literal freshman year of high school... currently in my 3rd year of college)
if there was one thing that kuroo tetsurō unfortunately knew well, it was that he might be his friend groups biggest situationship warrior.
it wasn't his fault, not truly anyways. being friends with the volleyball team meant that he was constantly attending their games, going to their afterparties, and of course, serendipitously, always ending up in your dorm room before he was about to crash.
it wasn't like he didn't want to date you. heavens, he did, more than anything else in the world. this yearning of his kept him up at night and more distracted in class than he’d ever even want to admit.
there was just one small problem.
he had no idea what you felt for him. at all.
he’d confided this in akaashi one day outside of a boba place, sipping his taro milk tea with the distinct feeling that you would’ve enjoyed this as much, if not more than him had you come along.
akaashi sipped his own drink, raising a dry brow. “you mean to tell me that nekoma’s best read blocker can’t read a crush?”
he sighed dramatically, setting his drink down on the table. “trust me akaashi, if it was obvious, i would’ve already asked them out.”
he settled deeper into the chair as if it would give him answers. “everytime i think that i’ve finally understood what they feel for me, something comes up to contradict it. for example: they complimented my outfit for the career fair. but the counterpoint is that everybody was dressed that way.”
akaashi cracked his knuckles, adjusting the frame of his glasses. “but they complimented you specifically.”
“or that other time that they stayed up late to help me with my homework when i couldn’t even stay up after tutoring bokuto. but they’re just kind.”
“have you ever stopped to consider that maybe they aren’t making a move because they can’t seem to read you either?”
kuroo stilled.
akaashi continued. “i don’t know a single damn person who’d ever bother to keep hosting you in their room everytime you have a game. or living in this kind of excruciating limbo unless they like you. or they’re oblivious.”
“who’s oblivious?”
kuroo felt his soul rip out of his body as he sees you, draped in sunlight and looking ever so ethereal. the sun kissed tendrils of your hair, making you look like you’d appeared from some other plane of existence entirely.
“kuroo’s crush,” akaashi said cooly, the subtlest smirk on his face as he sipped his milk tea. “we’re discussing whether or not there’s a possibility that they like him back.”
you rose a brow, pulling over a chair to sit beside your recent best friend. “i’m offended i didn’t know about this. kuroo? who is this person?”
kuroo coughed.
no way.
“nothing!” he blurted out. excellent. he was clearly and arguably the smoothest man alive.
“liar!”
“kuroo spends a lot of time with them,” akaashi shrugged. the bastard. “he’d rather stay in limbo than make a move.”
“i have the solution,” you grinned, willing your heart to stay together.
crushing on kuroo had been arguably the worst decision of your life. kind, handsome, and thoughtful, you realized halfway through your friendship that he could ruin your life and you’d say thank you.
“which is?” kuroo asked, his own heartbeat loud in his ears.
“practice on me,” you giggled. “ask me out. make a move. i’ll give you feedback. we can practice so you can beat your situationship.”
Thinking about Kuroo Tetsurō, who simply adores your bedhead, no matter how it looks like. The messier, the better, actually. At first, while he traces the pillow lines stamped on your cheek, you think it's because it makes it look like you had a wild night together, even when you didn't. Then, when he hardly bothers to push away the strands that cover your face, you think it's because he wants to enjoy that moment while you're matching, maybe because that's what he pictures soulmates should look when they wake up together. He simply chuckles when you ask him, though you can see the tip of his ears turning a cute pink. His voice is gravelly and low when he mumbles, his face half-pressed into the plush pillow, "it's like a proof that you feel safe with me. Safe enough to allow me to admire the most unfiltered and messy version of you. I just happen to find that to be the cutest you, but that could be because I'm head over heels for you."
you had been sitting on the rug in front of the coffee table, carelessly tossing stray items into an overnight bag for an upcoming weekend trip to visit your family. you had stretched your arms over your head, sighed softly, and said, “man, packing always makes me feel like i’m leaving forever.”
that was it. just a casual, offhand comment made on a lazy sunday evening while the television hummed faintly in the background. you hadn’t meant anything deeper by it. you weren’t running away, you weren’t pulling back, and you certainly weren’t planning on abandoning the life you had built together in your cozy apartment.
but kuroo’s brain didn’t register the mundane reality of the situation.
to kuroo—former volleyball captain, current japan volleyball association promoter, and full-time overthinker when it came to the person he loved most—those four words shattered his calm like a rock thrown through glass. ‘i’m leaving forever.’
he had been sitting on the couch with his laptop open, ostensibly checking sponsorship emails, but the moment the sentence left your lips, his hands froze over the keyboard. his dark eyes locked onto the back of your head, watching the gentle slope of your shoulders and the way your hair caught the soft lamp light. a sudden, cold weight settled heavily right in the center of his chest.
what if one day you actually did?
what if one morning you woke up, packed that exact same leather bag, walked out the front door, and never came back? what if the tiny arguments over who forgot to restock the dish soap, or his ridiculous work hours, or the sheer friction of daily life eventually wore away at your affection until leaving felt easier than staying?
the thought alone was suffocating. kuroo had faced terrifying opponents across the net, navigated high-stakes corporate negotiation meetings in tailored suits, and handled press crises without losing his cool, but the abstract nightmare of an empty apartment without you made his pulse spike into an frantic cadence. he hated it. he hated the visual. he hated the sickening drop in his stomach. he hated the idea of you leaving more than anything else in the entire world.
‘i can’t let that happen,’ he thought, his chest heaving silently as he stared at you. ‘i literally cannot survive that.’
logic was usually kuroo’s domain. he liked strategies, calculated risks, and neat timelines. he had actually bought a ring three months ago, tucked safely inside a small black velvet box hidden beneath a stack of old volleyball jerseys in his wardrobe. he had planned to propose properly next spring—maybe during a quiet vacation along the coast or at a nice restaurant where he could wear a sharp jacket and pretend he wasn’t sweating through his shirt.
but as he watched you zip up your bag with a small, innocent click, logic went completely out the window. spring was too far away. next month was too far away. tomorrow was too far away. he needed to bind your lives together right now. he needed the permanent, undeniable weight of a promise.
“hey,” kuroo blurted out, his voice a little rougher than intended.
you turned around, tilting your head in confusion. “hm? what’s up?”
“let’s go out,” he said abruptly, shutting his laptop with enough force to make the keys clatter. “right now. let's get dinner. or coffee. or just walk.”
you blinked at him, amused by his sudden energy. “now? but i just finished packing—”
“please,” he interrupted, rising from the sofa. his eyes were intense, fixed on you with a quiet, desperate hunger that made your breath catch. “just a quick walk. indulge me?”
you gave in easily, smiling as you stood up. “okay, fine. let me get my jacket.”
the moment you turned your back, kuroo darted to the bedroom, practically throwing his closet door open. his hands scrambled through the stacks of cotton until his fingers grazed the soft felt of the velvet box. he shoved it deep into the pocket of his coat, his fingers clamping around it like a lifeline, before marching back to the hallway where you were already slipping into your shoes.
outside, the evening air in the city was cool and bustling. neon signs painted the wet pavement in shades of pink, yellow, and blue, and crowds of people navigated the wide sidewalks. kuroo took your hand immediately, lacing his long fingers through yours with a grip so tight it was almost possessive. his palm was slightly clammy, his shoulder pressed firmly against yours as you walked side-by-side down the lively avenue.
“you okay, tetsu?” you asked softly, looking up at him as you strolled. “you’ve been super quiet since we left the apartment.”
“i’m fine,” he murmured, though his brain was running a mile a minute. ‘no, i’m not fine. i’m losing my mind. i need you to stay. i need to know you’re staying.’
they crossed a vibrant public square surrounded by glowing shop windows and street performers. a group of young people were gathered near a wide fountain, filming a video on a phone set up on a tripod. among them, two friends (???) named eme and mika were laughing hysterically while enthusiastically hitting the six seven emote in sync with the beat of a loud song playing from a portable speaker.
under normal circumstances, kuroo would have made a sly remark or chucked at the energetic crowd, but tonight he didn’t even register them. the world around him was an uninteresting blur of noise and color. the only thing in sharp focus was you—the warmth of your hand in his, the way you walked next to him, and the knowledge that nothing in this universe was technically stopping you from walking away forever.
except him. he had to stop it.
they reached the center of the illuminated plaza, right beneath the bright lights hanging between the street trees.
kuroo suddenly stopped dead in his tracks.
the abrupt halt yanked your arm back slightly, forcing you to turn around. “tetsu? what’s wrong?”
he didn’t answer right away. his throat worked as he swallowed hard, his dark eyes wide and full of an emotion so raw, so unshielded, that it instantly made your smile fade into concern.
“tetsurō?” you whispered, stepping closer. “are you feeling sick? what is it?”
“you can’t leave,” he rasped out, his voice cracking slightly over the ambient noise of the city.
you blinked, entirely bewildered. “what? leave where? i’m just going to my parents’ place for two days—”
“no, not just that,” he blurted, his chest rising and falling fast as he tugged you closer by your hand. people were pushing past you on either side, casting curious glances at the tall, handsome man in the long coat who looked like he was on the verge of a panic attack in the middle of a public square, but kuroo didn’t care about any of them. he didn’t care if the whole city watched.
“cause i hate you leaving,” kuroo confessed desperate, the raw truth tumbling out of his mouth in a frantic rush. “i hate the idea of it. i hated when you said it earlier, i hated thinking about it on the couch, and i hate even imagining a version of my life where you step away from me and don’t come back. i know you’re just visiting your family, i know i’m being completely insane right now, but i realized i can’t go another day without making sure you’re stuck with me forever.”
your jaw dropped slightly, your eyes wide as the pieces began to fit together in your head. “tetsu... were you overthinking because i said packing felt like leaving?”
“yes!” he said loudly, completely unashamed. “absolutely! i panicked!”
before you could even process his confession, kuroo dropped down onto one knee right there on the hard, paved ground of the plaza.
a collective gasp rippled through a few nearby onlookers. someone nearby stopped walking to pull out their phone, but kuroo was entirely blind to the world. his heart was hammering against his ribs like a trapped bird. with trembling, long fingers, he reached into his coat pocket and pulled out the small black velvet box, snapping it open to reveal the brilliant diamond ring catching the golden streetlights above.
“tetsurō!” you squeaked, your face instantly feeling hot as you looked around at the growing audience, then back down at him.
“i was gonna wait,” he said, looking up at you with wide, vulnerable eyes, his usual cheeky composure entirely stripped away. “i had a whole plan. a nice speech, a nice place. but i don’t care about any of that. i just need you to know that i love you more than my own life, and i never want you to leave me. so please—marry me. marry me now, please.”
the desperation, warmth, and ridiculousness of the moment washed over you all at once. tears pricked at the corners of your eyes, half from overwhelming love and half from laughter at how hopelessly dramatic he could be.
you dropped down to your knees right in front of him, ignoring the dusty pavement, and wrapped your arms tightly around his neck.
“you absolute idiot,” you laughed softly into the crook of his neck, feeling him instantly sag with relief against you, his big arms wrapping around your waist like iron bands. “i’m not going anywhere. i love you. yes! of course i’ll marry you!”
a small cheer erupted from the surrounding crowd, someone whistled, and off in the distance near the fountain, eme and mika cheered loudly before going right back to their antics.
kuroo pulled back just enough to slip the ring onto your finger, his fingers still shaking slightly, before pulling your face in for a deep, lingering kiss that tasted like the cool night air and relief.
“good,” he whispered against your lips, a tiny, familiar smirk finally creeping back onto his face despite the flush on his cheeks. “because i was seriously about to follow you on the train.”
hellooo. first time requesting sooo could you write Kuroo x reader? the basic idea is that reader is mad at him and gives him the silent treatment, but Kuroo is absolutely incapable of leaving things alone. he's following her around the apartment and refuses to move until she talks to him. thank youuuu, love youuu <33
heavy duty forgiveness • kuroo tetsuro
after a diy kitchen disaster leaves a mess on the floor, you hit kuroo with the ultimate weapon.
(fluff, bit of arguing, comedy)
Tetsuro Kuroo was many things: a skilled volley player, a master of petty provocation, and a man with a completely non-existent sense of personal space. What he was not, however, was equipped to handle the silent treatment.
It had been three hours since the "incident" which was entirely Kuroo’s fault for attempting to fix the kitchen cabinet door himself instead of calling the landlord, resulting in a miniature cascade of flour and canned tomatoes all over your freshly scrubbed floor. You hadn't yelled. Yelling was something Kuroo knew how to handle; he could smirk, tease, and charm his way out of a shouting match in under two minutes.
Instead, you had calmly put down the broom, washed your hands, and walked away. That was three hours ago. Since then, Kuroo had been orbiting you like an overactive satellite.
You sat on the couch, staring intently at your laptop screen as you typed out an essay. The apartment was peacefully quiet, or it would have been, if six-foot-two of lanky, bedhead-toting nuisance wasn't hovering directly over the back of the sofa, leaning his chin heavily on the top of your head.
-Soooo.... - Kuroo murmured, his voice practically vibrating against your skull -...are we still mad?
You didn't pause your typing. You didn't even blink. And you didn't even answer.
-Okay, cool, good baseline. - Kuroo said, completely undeterred. He hopped over the back of the couch, landing with a soft thump next to you, resting his elbow on the armrest and leaning in way too close. - How mad?
-Kuroo...
-That’s not a number. - he pointed out instantly, a dangerously playful glint in his hazel eyes.
-Is it like a 4? Kuroo is an idiot, but I still love him? Or a 9? Like, I am currently researching legal ways to hide a body'?
You pressed the delete key with entirely unnecessary force, refusing to break eye contact with your document.
-I'm working.
-You've been typing the same sentence for ten minutes, babe.
You bit the inside of your cheek. He wasn't wrong, but admitting that meant losing, and you were not losing today. You closed the laptop with a sharp snap, stood up, and marched toward the kitchen to make tea.
Kuroo was on your heels before your feet even hit the hardwood. He didn't grab you. He just dragged his feet behind you, matching your exact stride, humming a nonsensical, jaunty tune right behind your ear. When you pulled out a mug, a long arm reached over your shoulder to slide the sugar jar toward you before you could reach for it.
When you turned around to walk back to the living room, Kuroo immediately took a step backward, leading the way while walking completely in reverse, staring down at you with that absurd, lopsided grin.
-You know...- he mused, narrowly dodging the edge of the dining table without even looking -...scientists say holding in your rage is bad for your heart. As a responsible lover of science, I really think you should vent. Hit me with a pillow. Call me a bad name. Tell me my hair looks like a startled rooster. Anything!
You walked right past him, sitting back down on the couch and taking a slow, deliberate sip of tea. Kuroo stood in the middle of the living room, arms folded, watching you with exaggerated sorrow.
-Cold. Absolute sub-zero temperatures in here. I'm freezing.
You ignored him, opening your laptop again. That was the final straw for Kuroo. He let out a long, theatrical sigh, dramatic enough to rival a Shakespearean tragedy, and took two steps forward.
Before you could react, Kuroo didn't just sit down next to you, he practically threw his entire body sideways, flopping completely across your lap like an oversized, needy golden retriever.
-Kuroo! - you gasped, your tea mug sloshing precariously as six feet of muscle and limbs collapsed over your thighs.
His head landed smack in the middle of your stomach, his long legs dangling awkwardly over the opposite armrest. He immediately wrapped both arms around your waist, burying his face into your side, and went completely limp.
-I have rooted myself to this spot. You cannot move me. - he announced, his voice muffled against your sweater
-Get off! - you tried to push his shoulder, but he weighed a ton, and he only gripped your waist tighter, letting out a heavy, fake-drowsy groan.
-Nope. I do not move for angry people.
-I swear to God, my tea is going to spill on your head.
-A sacrifice I am willing to make for communication. - he turned his head sideways on your lap, looking up at you through those messy black bangs with a pair of wide, unashamedly hopeful eyes. He pouted, a look that should have been illegal on a guy his size.
-Come on. I cleaned up the flour. And the tomatoes. I even scrubbed behind the stove! - he protested.
You glared down at him, trying with every ounce of willpower in your body to maintain a stern expression. But his hair was sticking up in three different ridiculous directions, and there was still a tiny streak of dried flour near his jawline that he'd missed.
-You're an idiot. - you muttered, though the sharp edge in your voice was rapidly melting.
Kuroo’s eyes lit up. A slow, smug grin began to spread across his face.
-A full sentence! We're making progress. Are we at a 3 now? Is idiot a 3? - he gasped, sitting up just enough to rest his chin on your chest, staring up at you triumphantly.
-It's a 7. - you said, but your lips curved into a smile.
-I'll take a 7! - Kuroo declared, beaming as he reached up and easily plucked the tea mug out of your hand, setting it safely on the coffee table before pulling himself back up to wrap his arms properly around your shoulders, burying his face in your neck.
-Seven means I get to cuddle. Eight is where the physical violence starts.
You finally let out a defeated sigh, raising your arms to wrap them around his neck, sinking into his warmth.
-You are completely insufferable.
-Yeah... - Kuroo chuckled softly into your shoulder, his chest rumbling against yours as he gave you a tight, affectionate squeeze. -...but you love it. Now, tell me how much you hated the tomato soup on the floor so we can order takeout.
