also to the gap year anon...I took a year off after high school to deal with my mental health. this year turned into two. I’m now close to getting my Nursing degree and license.

many of my schoolmates are middle aged women, some in their late forties, even early fifties. most of them hold at least one other degree they got down the line. others still in their twenties are completing this one alongside a bachelor’s or master’s in an unrelated field. we have a guy in my year who has since enlisted in the army, and who will have to graduate a bit late because our examination periods conflict with his unit’s stationing in a different part of the country. he’s been doing his coursework for the theoretical portion of our semesters via correspondence.

as others have said, your path doesn’t have to be ”straight”; in truth very few people’s paths are. take your time. I know it all seems very catastrophic, (I get caught up in it too) but you’re young. the world can wait. you haven’t failed. do not insult yourself, or the millions, billions perhaps, of people worldwide who, like you, ended up on a winding path. it’s alright.

IIRC xKit staff have stated that while they are working on updating their extensions to function with the new dashboard, it will be hard, if not outright impossible for them to get the "old" look 100% back. Which is inconvenient as hell, between the missing sidebar and the clunky animations, and the queue just straight-up not showing you the posts you've put in it. :/ Basically, not only is our underwear all nettle, it's also got a fire ant infestation.

Thanks for that update. It was more or less what I expected, so colour me unsurprised. It’s time I migrated all my longer posts off-line so they’re not lost when the plug is finally pulled on this money-drain.

so this wasn’t on a street, but once when i was at work, i was helping a client with something. when she was finished, and i asked her if there was anything else i could do, she kind of paused, and then she started rooting around in her purse.

and she pulled out a potato.

it was a dead potato. started to sprout, wrinkly, the whole deal. she looked at the dead potato, and then she looked at me, and then she looked at the potato again.

“here,” she said. “take it.”

and she handed it very gently to me, and then walked away. i have not seen her since.

ghost - is there someone that you miss having in your life?

yes, but not in a way that i want to remedy. sometimes you have to accept that certain parts of your life are over--- sometimes you have to accept that certain people won’t come back. she’s out there living her life, and i hope that she’s happy, and even though i miss her all the time, it’s okay.
