"19/20 people who have attempted suicide, survived." I am one of those 19 people. The taboo and stigma surrounding suicide upsets me because depression and suicide attempts are becoming more prevalent in society, but yet the media chooses to not broadcast it. Depression is a rapid evolving epidemic and affects many of the people today. It seems to me that the only suicide attempts that get recognition are the ones that are successful. But why? Why are we not shedding some light on the survivors? It is because we are ashamed. We are ashamed and in denial to accept the fact that people just like us, would take their life away. "After all, what is more precious than life?" "That presumes one's life is worth living." - On a Pale Horse When one is contemplating suicide, their conscience and morals fade and are replaced with dark clouds and negativity. The light the sun brings is nowhere to be seen and that light is hope. Hope has disintegrated and that hope, was the only thing that kept a person contemplating suicide, alive. I am certainly not proud of the fact that I have attempted suicide, I am however not ashamed.
