Riff's always been a little bit impulsive. It used to feature on his school reports, back when he actually bothered showing up more than the bare minimum. Ralph often lacks the ability to think before he acts, and is frequently disruptive in class. He displays impatience in a number of situations. Not that his parents had ever read his reports much, save for the few times his dad would have bothered and then proceeded to smack him silly for whatever he found problem with. After a few years, he'd started binning them on the way home, or burning them, and they'd never asked. After all, he was a lost cause, or so they said. One more shitty report wasn't going to change that.
Most of the time, he's pretty good at getting out of whatever situation his impulsivity has gotten him into. He might not have been particularly book smart, but street smart? That's a different factor altogether. Plus he can generally hold his own if it comes to a fight, so there's that.
Except this isn't a fight. He and Tony had just been messing around, just like they always have. Impulse had taken over, and he'd darted forward, pressing their lips together. A moment later, he stumbles back, what he's just done sinking in. Fuck. Already pale skin goes practically a ghostly white, lips failing to form words, watching with a mixture of anticipation and fear for what the response will be.
