My own thoughts on Wake Up Dead Man (spoilers):

Intro too long, time getting to know the suspects too short

No seriously, why don't we know any of the suspects

We have very minimal knowledge about what got them into the church in the first place, their motivations beyond being told them in that one scene, etc.

What was with the no true Scotsman-ing of the Catholic Church

This film fails to say anything about religion besides "good overall but a few bad apples here and there"

This is not a film that criticises Christianity in any capacity, the idea of the antagonist being a "false Catholic" and the protagonist being a "real Catholic" is closer to a sermon than any criticism at all.

This was my biggest issue with the film, the way they handled religion felt slightly too much like I was trying to be converted, like when liberal religious people will try to frame every criticism of religion as a whole as a "You just haven't seen Real Christianity/Hinduism/Islam/Judaism/etc., its all an issue of translation or people using false idols" or whatever other excuse.

Fun at times, I enjoyed the parts where they discussed the locked room mystery, felt more like a Knives Out film at that point.

Incredibly annoying post on my dash again but I just want to highlight some replies that made my jaw drop:

“The axe is coming for all of us” No it absolutely is not. Also the implication that people who want such frivolous things (or rather “cool toys”) such as “healthcare for all” and “a livable income for all” are actually acting like spoilt toddlers, who already have everything they could possibly want and are still demanding more, is…

“The point wasn’t to elect someone who wasn’t going to commit war crimes.” Just leaving this one here. It speaks for itself.

And the piece de resistance, calling the Labour Party of the United Kingdom of Great Britain “a leftist party”. The same leftist party suppressing Palestine protests, tearing down trans rights and forcing immigrant care workers (who are the backbone of the country’s elderly care system, mind you) out of the country they’ve given their soul to just to be able to work.

(Rant about American politics under the cut)

It’s just incredible to me that none of these people are prepared to criticise their own former government. How quick they are to blame every single third party voter, every person disillusioned with the Democrats, every single target instead of the real one.

The fact of the matter is that Harris ran an utterly awful campaign which focused on #brat summer more than the actual issues people wanted addressing. And yelling at communists on tumblr (who did not change the outcome of the election, be fucking serious) will not change anything. Treating people like they’re ridiculous for wanting basic protections that everyone should have is not fighting “single issue voters”, it’s how you got yourself into this mess.

Because you allowed and encouraged Democrats to believe that they could run on the square root of fuck all and you would still vote for them. And you did, and will keep doing so, and they will keep delivering nothing because they know they don’t have to. They could commit, in your actual words, “War crimes”, and you still would not treat that as a good enough reason to not vote for them. They weren’t “betrayed”, or “stabbed in the back”, they did nothing for their voters and still had people coming to their rallies.

It’s pathetic. That’s all it is.
