La verdad es que no me sorprende que haya existido en Venezuela un ron llamado Angostura. Siempre pensé que en un intento de reivindicar el hecho que el Amargo de Angostura sea de origen venezolano, se lanzó un ron con el mismo nombre. Pero precisamente por eso me sorprendió bastante que este ron Angostura es hecho bajo licencia del House of Angostura en Trinidad y me llevó a investigar un poco…

Trinidad Sour

The Trinidad Sour is a relatively recent (at least, in classical cocktail terms) drink that's already proven it has legs. But there's really one fact about the Trinidad Sour that stands out. One shining, gleaming idea that makes people pause. And that is the fact it contains no less than one and a half ounces of Angostura Bitters. While it's not the only drink that uses Ango as a major ingredient (the Port of Spain is another that I love), few commit as hard or as successfully as the Trinidad Sour.

1 1/2 oz Angostura Bitters

1 oz orgeat (Liber & Co.)

3/4 oz lemon juice (Fresh)

1/2 oz rye (Rittenhouse)

Shake all ingredients on ice and strain into glass. Serve up.

It hardly needs to be said but this drink is defined by Angostura. The discussion around it? All Ango. The taste? Ango dominates. The appearance? Got that Ango dark red. I'd say it is a lot more palatable than just drinking straight bitters, this is the kind of drink that tastes far less crazy than it sounds. It's bone-dry, though, not unexpectedly.
