9. Favorite concert you’ve attended?

It probably should be the show where I worked as a roadie for Saves the Day, but that night is about so much more than just the concert itself. So for one judging just based off the concert portion, Saves the Day’s acoustic holiday shows at Asbury Lanes on December 20, 2013. Great vibe, great performance, great setlist, it’s one I’ll never forget.

10. Most underrated musician in your opinion

I mean...I’m pretty sure every artist I listen to is underrated, lol. I’m going to say Candy Hearts. Just about every song was a true bop and Mariel Loveland is such a terrific lyricist, I just feel like the pop punk scene found her too girly and the emo scene found her too pop punk. 

23. A song by an artist with a voice that you love?

“Our Choice” by the Early November. Ace’s got an amazing voice and I love how he goes from smooth into a near breakdown near the end. He’s got so much range.

(only on anon bc my personal tumblr isn’t my primary one, my url is angrypedestrian) Hey, I just wanted to say thanks for saying, like, smart things about fandom and all the nonsense that has been happening this weekend. I tend to hang out on the periphery of fan stuff, because as a dude (trans and queer, but still a dude) in fandoms that tend to be primarily queer women, I try to be really conscious of the space that I occupy and take up and how that can translate into digital communities,

2.) so I end up not really saying a whole lot because I don’t think it’s my place. But I’ve also been in fandom a long ass time, and the past couple years have gotten scary in what folks are doing and how they interact with creators and actors. So yeah, just wanted to thanks for people like you and @ratherembarrassing for being outspoken and calling people on their shit.3.) I also realized recently that, like, a million years ago you left a nice comment on a Quinn Fabray is trans fic I wrote, which is nuts that I’ve been following some of y’all for so long. But I just wanted to say thanks for that too. Thanks!

more thoughts under the cut, because i’m still very aware that, like, not everyone wants to hear it. and i get that.

I just think that… there’s a gap between expectations and reality for wlw on TV right now. in fandom’s understandable attempt to close that gap – because we do deserve better stories, we do deserve to see ourselves represented well and embraced and celebrated – and because NOT getting that makes us feel, y’know… so desperate, and so unseen, and so small – it just. it starts to leech the rationality right out of us. because we’re fucking tired, you know? because we’re sad.

everyone has a different tipping point. and i don’t mean to cause more distress for the people who felt genuinely called out and belittled by what happened on Saturday. we’re all just people doing our best to move through life, and we all have our own metric of just how far we can bend before shattering. 

but we’ve turned into a culture that eats our own. because we want to be on TV, and not just on the fringes, fandom as a whole has become a place where people feel as though if they’re not being given exactly what we want in exactly the way we want it, we’re being victimized. and if someone disappoints us along the way– it’s a less than one strike rule. saying the wrong thing once becomes a black mark with no quarter, no room for growth, no forgiveness. 

it happened to layne morgan. it happened to lauren zuke. 

and now it’s happening to jeremy jordan, and honestly… jeremy jordan is not our enemy. he’s the guy who started a national campaign to get his cousin out of a conversion camp. he has fought on the front lines on our behalf; he has seen true oppression and he has taken a stand against it in a tangible, vital way– a way that, let’s face it, very few of our straight faves have. that, to me, is a much more important definition of allyship than whether or not he’s willing to do a performative wink-and-a-nod play at inclusiveness to non-canon wlw ships during a ten minute PR spot.

that doesn’t mean we owe him a debt of gratitude and he then gets to do or say whatever he wants because he’s been given a get out of jail free card. and it doesn’t mean that what he did was professional or appropriate or understandable– it wasn’t really any of those things. it was a cheap knock. he’s admitted as much.

but what it does mean, i think, that we owe him the benefit of the fucking doubt. and the same goes for everyone else who was in that room.

we are under so much fire, these days. i understand wanting to be vigilant, because that feeling like an attack could come from any side, it’s not just in our heads. it’s a real feeling. it’s fucking hard to be queer in 2017, and it’s hard to know who to trust. we’re going to get hurt, because people want to hurt us.

but mis-identifying who those people are, and then castigating them and shutting out any room for discussion… it’s only going to hurt us more. it’s only going to run more fracture marks through our community.

and that, to me, is the much more devastating take away here– one much more damaging than a bad joke.

7. earbuds or headphones:

I think a really nice set of headphones would be my favorite, but I always use earbuds because I can put them in my pocket.

19. sleeping position: 

I’m a stomach sleeper, for sure. That’s easiest for me to fall asleep, at least. Then I tend to wake up in other positions though. 

34. advertisements you have stuck in your head?:

56. favorite tradition:

When my family would go to Ocean City MD every summer when I was a kid. It was the same every summer. We’d drive down on a Monday and swim at the hotel and walk the boardwalk and eat at a random beach restaurant, wake up early Tuesday and ride bikes on the boardwalk, spend the day at the beach, and go eat dinner at the Outback across the street from the hotel, wake up Wednesday and eat breakfast at Dough Rollers, then spend the rest of the day at the State Fair before going home. I miss that.

69. a fun fact that you don’t know how you learned?:

As I mentioned before, a rough one. I’ve been blanking, I kinda remember how I learn most things, because it’s the story behind a piece of information that helps me remember it.

Hm: There are three Teen Titans supporting characters with the last name Kane -- Flamebird/Bette Kane, Magenta/Frances Kane, and Jericho’s mother/Deathstroke’s ex-wife, Adeline Kane. None of these characters are related to each other. Two out of three were created by the same writer and artist.
