My favorite angsty movies have to come from China. There are so many of their love stories that just end so tragically, I swear they created movies with no happy ending, it is sad AF, but it is soo good. If you are into a good story, without plot holes, all about romance with a side of Martial Arts or Chinese history, these movies are definite go-to’s. If you aren’t into those things, but love angsty romances, morally grey areas, and philosophical debates, you’ll definitely love these movies. They are amazing and if you’re not watching, you are definitely missing out.
We got “The Sorcerer and the White Snake”, starring Jet Li, and the main song is called, “Promise” (careful, this song is the summary of the entire movie and happens at the end, but it’s fucking angsty as hell). We have a medicine man, who gathers medicine, and a demon, a woman who is a white snake, who falls in love with him, and a Buddhist monk, who’s life purpose is sending demons back to their realm, where they belong. It’s a struggle between what is right and what is wrong, the lines are really blurred, and it’s a movie where you don’t hate anyone, you love all the characters and want happiness for them.
Then there is “The Myth”, starring Jackie Chan, and the main song is called, “Endless Love”, and, oh my, this song just tears out my heart, and is sung by Jackie Chan, himself, along with the actress, I believe. It’s a movie about an archeologist, who uncovers his past life, and we go on that journey with him. If I recall, I felt like the scenes from the past to the future was a bit disjointed, but I was like 12 when I watched this movie. I still listen to the song, to let my angsty heart just angst it’s rotten life away. Again, the song is the main theme of the movie, so the song tells the entire movie, and is fucking sad AF, but you will definitely love the characters, might hate one or two, but they the bad guys, so it’s all good.
Those are probably the top movies I love going back to and listening to the main tracks, and reminiscing in the heart ache and pain they all experienced (and still do). If you haven’t watched them and love angsty pairings or a good heart break, I’d suggest you all to watch it!
