Day 1 French Immersion at Angus Glen
Bonjour et Bienvenue!!! Welcome to the first day of French Immersion Camp!! Today was a very exciting day as the campers began their journey into the world of French! We covered a lot today and can't wait to tell you all about it! We began the day with some ice breakers and name games, which was a great way for the campers to get to know each other. They learned how to say "Hello, my name is.... and I like....(a favourite food)..." en francais of course! This was a great way to find out some things that have in common. After, we learned how to ask "Helpful Questions", en francais, such as "Est-ce que je peux aller aux toilettes? (Can I go to the washroom?). They also learned actions to go along with the questions to help them remember what they mean. The campers all did a fantastic job at using these "Helpful Questions" throughout the day!Once we finished snack, we learned how to say the letters of the alphabet, as well as count to ten, en francais! We played the game "Dix!", which the campers enjoyed very much and was great for them to remember their numbers. After lunch we spent some time outside playing camp games with a french twist! Once we were back inside, the campers learned how to write the date in french and continued to take note of everything that they learned during the day. We look forward to another fun filled day of french tomorrow!

Day 4 of Creative Writing at Angus Glen
We can't believe that the week is over! It was a pleasure getting to know the campers as well as helping them develop their creative writing skills. Today we focused on completing our final assignments and making sure our plays were set to go for when the parents came in the afternoon. The campers worked very hard in the morning to complete their poems, short stories, comics and autobiographies. They were able to take them home at the end of the day to show their parents everything they learned this week! After our pizza lunch, we spent time in the afternoon rehearsing our plays, as well as creating any last minute props and costumes. We would like to thank all of the parents who were able to come out to watch the performances. In case you weren't able to make it, pictures are posted below. Have a great weekend!

Day 3 of Creative Writing at Angus Glen
We began our third day of creative writing camp with newspaper articles! The campers were able to create their own newspaper story from the topic we gave them. They learned about headlines, captions, quotes and how to capture the reader's attention..There are definitely some future journalists in this camp! After snack we played the game SALAD BOWL!!!!! In three teams, the campers had to pick a short phrase out of the "salad bowl" and describe their phrase to their team as best as they could WITHOUT saying a single word from that phrase. The game got tricky when they could only act out their phrase, and VERY tricky when they could only say ONE word that related to their phrase. We were lucky to have nice weather again today and spend lunch outside. After lunch, the campers created their own comic strips!! The comics were about superheros! The campers learned about the the different characteristics of comic strips and there were some very creative ideas. We continued to put the finishing touches on our scripts, and they are coming along great! The campers began gathering their costumes and props as well. At the end of the day we began working on our "Final Task" which will be due tomorrow before lunch. This task is to create a good copy of their short stories, poems, write a short autobiography and finish their comics.These projects will go home tomorrow for parents to see! We are very excited to see the plays tomorrow and hope everyone can make it! Also, reminder that tomorrow is PIZZA DAY!

Day 2 of Creative Writing at Angus Glen
"You're off to great places, today is your day, your mountain is waiting, so get on your way!" - Dr. Seuss "Oh the Places You'll Go" What another wonderful day of Creative Writing Camp! Today the campers explored the world of poetry! They learned about different types of poems, which include couplets, diamante, haikus, quatrains and limericks. The campers traveled around to different stations set up in the program room, where they were able to learn, explore and create each different type of poem.There was so much creativity and there are definitely some future poets in this group! After snack, the campers continued to work on their plays (which will be presented Friday). They came up with topics and the important lesson, or moral they want to include. In addition, they worked on their character descriptions as well as setting. We spent our lunch time outside in the beautiful weather. The campers had fun playing camp games and sing a-longs. Then it was time for MAD LIBS!!! The campers had so much fun creating their own mad libs, which are very short stories with missing words or blank spaces. It is the reader's job to insert a word (noun, verb, adjective) in these blank spaces in order to complete the story. There were some very creative and funny stories!! We are looking forward to another day of creative writing camp tomorrow!!!!
Day 1 of Creative Writing at Angus Glen
Welcome to the first day of Creative Writing Camp at Markham Public Library!! We began the day with ice breaker name games. The campers enjoyed getting to know each other by memorizing each others names and performing actions to go along with them. This was much harder than it looked! After, we learned about the importance of character descriptions in stories. The campers practiced this by describing their favourite fairy tale characters. Throughout the day the campers learned how to write a short story. Some of the important qualities of a short story include proper structure, (beginning, middle and end). They also learned how to include a conflict, climax and resolution in their story.These qualities ensure that the story has a good flow, makes sense and is interesting for the reader. In the afternoon we played PICTIONARY!!!!! This was soooooo much fun for all the campers, however it was no ordinary game of pictionary. Every so often, the four teams had to face a "blind challenge", where the "artist" had to draw with their eyes closed! Finally we began brainstorming ideas for our scripts, which we will present to parents on Friday. We look forward to seeing everyone then!
Day 1: Public Speaking at Angus Glen

WELCOME campers and family to the PUBLIC SPEAKING CAMP! The day started off with some ice breakers and a game of "name that action" Campers were able to learn each others name and have a fun time!
The next thing the campers did was learn about pace, pitch and tone! Campers played a game where they had to use variations of their pace pitch and tone and were able to understand the importance of each!
Campers performed act it out scenes - they were given an emotion and had to act it out! There were a lot of laughs and campers had an enjoyable time!
Campers also learned about the purpose of public speaking. In order to make a succesful speech campers must be able to: persuade, inform and entertain!
Campers also made their very own inventions in groups! Some of the inventions were super cool like a hover board and others were super convenient like an ice cream maker that is ready in ONLY 10 seconds!!
Campers had some outdoor time and ended the day off with a relaxing game of 7-UP
REMINDER FOR PARENTS AND FAMILY: Please come to the camp at 3:oo pm on Friday, August 1, 2014 to view the final presentations. Friday is pizza day - if you have ordered pizza for your child please do not give them a lunch.
