This is the workings of my first work in a body containing 4 pieces regarding CROWDS. The first one considers the nature of a herd.... in this case, some bison on the great plains. I’m using mixed media and although collage is the medium I work in on a consistent basis, these materials and size (24″x30″) are very different for me! Instead of cutting shapes and colors from pre-existing printed materials, I am making my own collage materials from paint, watercolor paper, newspapers, fabrics, tissue paper and gesso on canvas. No digital manipulation at play here (also very different for me!). Here are a combo of photos showing my working process from right to left, with the last photo, I’m thinking this is about 75% finished, but I ran out of materials. back to the art store tomorrow! A few things I planned on are not working, such as stamping from a block cut I made, it’s just not large enough or powerful enough to stand out. Line work and back of herd to come tomorrow.
