I'm not so much into Animorphs anymore, but I have gotta say that the level of creativity among Animorphs fanwriters is THROUGH THE ROOF. Some of the coolest sci fi ideas I have ever come across I encountered in Animorphs fanfic. You all (yes, you, who wrote your fic as a tween in 2006) rock. 8D

This is such a sweet sentiment and also SO TRUE! Few other fandoms delight in world building like Animorphs. We are something special.

Animorphs Mini Bang Updates

Hi friends! The interest in this has been AMAZING, and my initial relaxed style of running the bang is becoming more focused due to the demand. I’ve made an official mini bang Tumblr for news and updates. Please follow this instead of lilacsolanum, because lilacsolanum is a messy mistake.

I want to announce the addition of three more rules, based on conversations and situations that have come up! They are: Can my fic be about OCs? This is an exciting way to collaborate with an artist! But artists don't always want to draw OCs. Your fic must focus on canon characters. If you want to see your OCs fully realized, feel free to ask an artist about their commission rates! Can my fic be a sequel of a fic, or set in a personal universe? The artists will have a week to sort through dozens of fics. They should not have to do any additional reading. If your fic is a sequel or partner to something else you've written, but completely stands alone without it, that's fine! Otherwise, we'll be kind to our artists and not overload them. Can I write an AU? Absolutely! AUs are a foundation of fandom! Just make sure the canon characters are still very much the focus, and you’ll be sure to spark some stylistic creativity. If this interrupts anyone’s plans, please contact the mods, and we’ll help you work something out! The deadline for fics has come and based! And the secret second deadline, because I said June 1st AND May 31st, apparently!

Thank you for all your patience as Cav and I work together through a time of unprecedented turmoil. We have nine writers that no-called-no-showed, and we’re going to take a day or two to try and track them down in case something got lost in communication. We’re learning a lot about organization as we go.

We have about eleven fics ready to go, though. They all look FANTASTIC. I’m so excited!

Sign-ups for writers are closing in just a few days! April 1st! I’ll be keeping artists sign ups open longer, since. Why not. 

Cav (@acavatica) and I are going over the list of participants and double checking with people who haven’t confirmed. We were having a lot of issues with e-mails, we think Google has been sending them to spam because the welcome message has links. We’re still trying to find “chocodiamond,” who gave us a Discord with the number tag. We love you chocodiamond! 

Counting unconfirmed people, we’re at 46 participants! That is insane for a decades old children’s book series that never had a successful media adaption! A true testament to Animorphs lasting impact. This event is going to be bomb af. Don’t be afraid to sign up!

Guess what writers! First drafts due in a week!

A refresher: I consider the first draft as 4k minimum, plus information about anything that’s missing. Whatever you turn in needs to be something you can polish off within a month.

In the past, I’ve been giving people contact options, so that they can communicate with me in a way that’s easiest for them. This was when I thought maybe 14 people would sign up. Uh-oh, me! For my sanity, I’m asking for all pieces to be sent to the same place.

Send your UPLOADED first draft to [email protected] with the subject line [ANIMORPHS MINI-BANG] Title Of Your Piece by Your Name. 

Do not put the fic in the body of the e-mail. Please upload it and provide a link. I’m not sending the artists a giant document with every fic copy and pasted in full. Please host it somewhere. If you’re using a sharing service (I assume most of us will be using Google Drive) MAKE SURE YOU COPY THE LINK THAT SHARES WITH OTHERS. For example, do not copy and paste the URL of your Google Drive editing screen. Hit the “Share” button on the left, and copy and paste that link.

Please e-mail it. Do not send it to me on Discord. Do not send it to me through Tumblr. E-mail it. I will e-mail you back to confirm it was received. If you don’t get a confirmation within 24 hours, chase me down.

If unfinished, what can the reader expect to see?: The first draft of my bang fic will have one or two scenes that are summarized rather than written. You also might see some responses left blank, or with a string of dialog options, or things like “Pop culture reference???” as I workshop and strengthen jokes.
