August and Everything After: Recommendation
Where to begin? How about my favourite song at the moment, ‘Anna Begins’ by the amazing band known as ‘Counting Crows’.
So recently I purchased the album “August and Everything After” from a somewhat local market, and not to mention my favourite market. I have heard this album many times before in my life, sort of the soundtrack of my life if you may. However, recently I bought my own CD (for a $1 might I add - what a steal!), and it is the CD which will now and forever live in the CD player of my car.
For a little background on this album and its relevance to my life, it was the album my mother and father listened to when they first got together and has been passed down as a family heirloom, you might say, to myself and my siblings.
This has to be my all time favourite album, EVER, I can’t praise this album enough. The lyrics are pure poetry and create a visual painting in my mind, also the melody and vocals are beautiful. However, at the moment ‘Anna Begins’ is my focus.
The song ‘Anna Begins’ is about a romantic relationship, which the lead vocalist (Adam Duritz) had with a young woman named Anna while he was overseas. The lyrics, as stated by Adam in an interview (Link further down), are about the denial faced within a relationship, when forced to admit ones feelings to themselves. A lyric which sums this up perfectly is; “You try to tell yourself the things you try to tell yourself, to make yourself forget”.
In short, the whole song is about the denial and avoidance of his feelings for Anna until he is forced to face them, however, by that point, it’s too late.
Basically, the song “Anna Begins” (lyrics above), by Counting Crows (Album cover above), is a beautiful song about a relationship experienced by many. The album is just as beautifully put together as the song and is a must listen to for a lover of poetry and mental imagery.

but she can't stop shaking and I can't stop touching her
Counting Crows and Matchbox Twenty with @kaburn. Probably the single best concert I've ever been to. We had amazing seats, they played every song I could have wanted to hear, and it was just so perfect. I felt so so alive.
It isn't love If you don't want to talk about it Then it isn't love And I am sure that I can live without it When kindness falls like rain It washes me away And Anna begins to change her mind The seconds when her shaking leaves me shuddering for days And I'm not ready for that sort of thing I am not going to bend I am not going to worry about it anymore It seems like I should stay as long as this is love But it's not all that easy Wrap her up in a butterfly bet Pin her down to a photograph album And oh lord I'm not ready for that sort of thing
