Another tv show has swallowed my soul
My thoughts on each of the Grand Army characters
Because I binged the show in a day so here’s my garbage thoughts.
Dom: She’s literally the best character and the least problematic in the entire show. 10/10, I’d die for her. She also reminds me of my friend and I love that.
Sid: I know he hung out with the swimmy boys and contributed to some of their dumbfuckery but overall he was a good dude. He spent the whole season just trying to work out who he was inside and we respect him for that. The “Remind me not to get in a cab with you guys,” line made me scream on the inside it was so good.
Joey: My precious child who deserves so much better. Watching her progress from Free the Titties to only wearing sweats and not dancing anymore was heart crushing. But when she had her moments of finding herself again I was internally cheering so loud for her.
Leila: We all know someone like Leila who we’d like to punch in the face with a lamp. The only thing she had was the audacity. Every time I felt a shred of sympathy for her, she’d instantly kill it in one sentence. Also, I may have been watching too much Criminal Minds, but that journal does not look good, fam. The bomb threat was just the beginning and I have a feeling that in season 2 she’s gonna escalate.
George: In the very beginning it was clear that he had his flaws, but he was so cute and looked like a nice friend so I held onto hope that he’d turn out alright. He did not and now he can promptly go die. I’m still slightly attracted to him though and I hate it.
Luke: Never liked him. He can die.
Jayson: He was really doing his best to help his friend. It doesn’t work out for him very well, but he’s certainly trying. I hope his concert protest goes well.
John: He is perfection. Mwah. Him and Dom are the cutest couple there and I love them together. He was a little misguided with the $300, but boy only wanted to help his crush out.
Anna: ohhhhhhhh she messed UP. It was so gratifying but painful to watch her realize this towards the end. She should’ve at least talked to Joey, but her misplaced loyalty to her brother turned her into the WORST friend. I’m really curious to see what happens with her later.
Tim: ugggggggghhhhhhhhh another anemic white boy trash fire baby. Like I need another one. He’s made mistakes and arguably is a terrible person, but he’s finally coming around. It looks like he’s gotten himself a lil drug problem now though so that should be fun. I don’t like him but also I like him a lot and when he is being cute or making good choices he’s one of my favs.
If Netflix cancels this one, I WILL kill somebody.
let’s talk about the fact that victor borin is amazing and wasn’t stereotyped or stigmatized the way so many bisexual people are in real life. he definitely had an infatuation towards sid when they first met, but didn’t try to push whatever he felt on him knowing he had a girlfriend. he didn’t try to seduce him or do anything sexual with him even when sid literally got a boner when they were alone in his bedroom. he quickly forgave sid after he was falsely accused of exposing his college essay, even when he could’ve chosen to be petty and unforgiving. he didn’t try to initiate anything romantic with sid until he tried to pursue something first. i literally love this unproblematic king and i can’t wait to see more of him next season.
I haven’t seen anyone talk about this but the whole reason Joey even put herself in that situation is because her selfish best friend put ideas in her head. Anna literally told her that she would not be good for Tim and made her swear to not sleep with him. Joey was sabotaging the one thing she wanted to appease her best friend and honestly that’s super fucked. Joey and Tim deserved a chance.
Also want to point out Anna immediately went on the defensive and cut Joey out after the accusations. She didn’t support her supposed best friend or even wait to hear her out. She helped in bullying her when they met up at the bridge despite the fact the night it happened, Joey had her trade underwear because hers was covered in blood (which Anna never questions) and even heard Dom mention bruises on Joey (Anna never questions either).
TLDR: Anna is a shitty excuse of a friend and I hope they don’t try to makeup in season 2 without some sort of acknowledgment.
(Also want to state that even though Joey put herself in that situation it does not justify what the guys did. Only pointing this out since everyone claims it was Joey just being Joey when Joey was actually growing to want more in life and Anna pushed her back down.)
on 1x5 but Anna not questioning how Joey's bleeding but doesnt need a tampon then later not asking what Dom meant about her legs was hella sus
here i am going to write my silly little thoughts about joey and anna’s toxic ass friendship. i find it extremely fucked up how even though joey obviously had feelings for tim (we won’t even get started with that mess of a boy), anna made her promise to not date/hookup with him??? not only does that put pressure on joey because she doesnt want to hurt her “best friend” by a relationship that she obviously wants, it also puts her in a position to not have control over who she wants to be with. it gets very messy since tim has no clue about their little promise so it also ends up hurting him in an indirect way, which we then enter to the taxi r-pe scene. while joey is trying to mask her true feelings for tim by smoking and getting high because how torturing is it to not express your feelings for someone who you actually like knowing that if you break the promise you also lose your so called “best friend.” it gets even worse when anna just doesn’t believe joey when she tried to get justice for them r-ping her?!? how much she defended all three of the boys no matter what when aren’t you supposed to be joeys best friend? maybe it’s the clouded judgement because she just can’t imagine her own brother sitting and watching a friend get assaulted, still doesn’t justify her puppet actions with defending these “friends” of hers over joey. in conclusion fuck anna, for being a horrible best friend and a victim blamer.
MUTUALLLLSSSS
fuck. help.
i just finished Grand Army on Netflix and LO AND FUCKIN BEHOLD. its cancelled after one brilliant season. this show made me cry and laugh and its genuinely real? like the characters are realistic and the acting is SO GOOD
so yeah. recommend! because if it doesn't get magically renewed i will cry a lot. (you'll probably cry too but its good sad tears y'know? like when you cry watching a show its because you can connect to it)
please watch this!
God I love this show. Speedpaint is underneath.
