period dramas are always showing us women in corsets, getting made up, unnecessarily sexualized. i've never seen anyone say they were put off by a scene of a woman putting on a corset, a petticoat, a dress over top. in a film meant to be the anti-austen adaptation, that used humor and color and characterization to break the "stiffness" of other interpretations, it feels not only justified but expected that for once the man is the one getting made up, not the women. i stan knightley's butt

i'd say 'expected' is a strong word since i never expect nudity on austen adaptations (maybe i should from now on😅). but yeah i think that scene has different connotations than nudity on an andrew davies adaptation. (he just wanna make everything about sex 😂) i'm not put off by andrew's work,but i know a lot people don't like it.
