Big, bold love for Marimekko
Marimekko is a Finnish textile and clothing design company renowned for its original prints and colours. Established in 1951, Marimekko is the brainchild of designer Armi Ratia and her husband Viljo. Through the use of bright colours and bold prints, Ratia injected life into the drab, post-WWII landscape of greys, browns and blacks with her revolutionary fashion and design.
The Textile Museum of Canada celebrates this iconic brand through a retrospective of its early years in Marimekko, With Love. Highlighting Ratia’s philosophy on the power of design in everyday life, the exhibit pays tribute to this visionary designer who signed all of her correspondence, with love.
