But it wasn’t utter crap, and kids love it. The kids in my classroom adore everything they can get their hands on written by him.
Yup! Same with the kids who come to my store - they just adore his stories. And considering the other things that are being sold, Chris is leaps and bounds more creatively minded - with a deeper level to his story telling. I do think the first book is weaker, but his writing has grown as he has. And just because I have some nitpicky thoughts overall doesn’t diminish the magic these books have for kids. They don’t care - they just want to have fun while reading, and Chris definitely supplies that. :)

On this note: A good friend of mine from HS was in a single episode of ER as a patient in the background, only one line. She still gets residual checks from that work. It amounts to about $9 a quarter, give or take. Not much, but it's something.

Yeah, I’m guessing that 20% gets divided up into really, really tiny parts, lol.

I think the Friends cast are getting that kind of money because they were in a position to renegotiate during the series (usually year 5/7 depending). They also (famously) got $1Mil per episode. No one in Glee got that, lol.
Isn’t that kind of unheard of in most TV scenarios? I remember it making the news cause it was such a huge thing.

The magical word for royalties is syndication. Which means a show has to hit 100 episodes (usually five seasons), as it's unusual for it to happen sooner. Few shows ever hit that point.
Yup! Though I wonder what happens now since syndication isn’t really as big of a thing as it once was.
