slayerkitty replied to your post “Bambi”
@spaceorphan18 I once talked with someone at a convention who posited that the hunter that killed Bambi's mom as I e of Disney's top 5 most evil villains. Thoughts?
So, I’m not so sure I agree. I mean -- did this movie do a great job conveying that terrifying presence that is man, and shows our affect on the environment and nature? Yes - yes it did.
Would I call it down right evil? Maybe not. Especially not for the sole act of killing Bambi’s mom -- as hard for kids as that is. I mean, I’d almost argue that the greater evil is them letting their camp fire get out of control and nearly burning down an entire forest.
But I’m not sure it’s fair, even, to categorize hunting in this context evil. There are predators and prey all over the food chain, and that’s how nature works. Part of life is death, and I feel like that was more the point than to show how evil human kind is.
Meanwhile - there are quite a few villains I’d probably categorize as more evil -- characters who are just mean, spiteful, and scary without any real motivation, which I think, in a way, is darker.
Even from this earlier set -- you have the Wicked Queen - who is so vain that she’s willing to kill her step-daughter cause she can’t fathom being second place. In Pinocchio - you have a guy literally collecting children, turning them into donkeys, and selling them into slave labor. And even in Dumbo - you have women (elephants) who shut out their own blood because he’s different, and a circus leader who could definitely get hauled in for animal cruelty.
We don’t know what the hunters’ motivations are in Bambi - and even if it was for sport, instead of food, keeping the deer population down is not the worst thing human beings have ever done, even in the first five Disney films.
That’s my two cents on that, I suppose.
When you get this you have to answer with 5 things you like about yourself, publicly. Then, send this ask to 10 of your favourite followers (Non-negotiable, positivity is cool!)
I’m an only child.(Obviously I had nothing to do with that, but I love it!)
I’m incredibly well-organized and detail oriented.
I’m hilarious at parties (Seriously. I really am. I tell awesome stories.)
I’m very, very self-sufficient. (Probably a by-product of being an only child.)
My husband and I are great parents. (My daughters are really awesome. I’m gonna credit good parenting.)
slayerkitty replied to your post “@ckerouac I hear your dash is dead… Do you want Outlander spoilers?”
@snarkyhag @ckerouac once you've watched it CK, we three need to have a discussion.
I’ll be here this time tomorrow. With gifs.
@slayerkitty replied to your post: I just realized I’m like three episodes behind...
@ckerouac me too but thats from the book. Sigh.
Like... I don’t care? Just cause the author wrote something shitty in a book 25 years ago doesn’t mean they have to keep it in an adaptation. And going over and over and over to that well.
Admittedly, I only got through a few pages of the first book before I realized her writing was not for me, so I’m not a book reader. So I have no marriage to the source material. But just because something is canon doesn’t mean it has to stay in.
slayerkitty replied to your post: Logging into Tumblr on the parental machine feels...
