spotlight on: annie p fleurpoms

Fleurpoms are always a popular product of ours! They may be a simple decoration but they sure do look great at parties, weddings or even around your house or garden. Hang them in uneven groups with fishing line for best results.

how to: assemble a fleurpom

Fleurpoms are one of our most popular items as they look so great hanging at parties, weddings or just in your house. Our customers are always having reservations about assembling them though so we have created this step by step guide for you.

You will need:

a fleurpom

length of wire (this should be supplied with the fleurpom)

STEP ONE: Lay out the tissue paper lengthwise in front of you.

STEP TWO: Fold the tissue paper accordion style (fold one way then alternate the opposite way) along the pre scored lines.

STEP THREE: Fold a length of wire around the middle of the tissue bundle and twist so it sits securely. This will be used later as an anchor point for hanging.

STEP FOUR: Make up one side of the fleurpom by separating the layers and pulling them away from the center one at a time.

STEP FIVE: Repeat step four for the other side.

STEP SIX: Hold the fleurpom from the wire center and fluff to create a full ball effect.

Use fishing line to hang if you want the fleurpoms to look like they are floating in space. You can also hang lengths of ribbon, ornaments, streamers or signage underneath the fleurpom to make it even more festive.

Cavallini & Co. is a beautiful, old-fashioned company started in the year 1989 in San Francisco, California. They have created a very strong brand identity using nostalgic imagery - I only wish I could go trawling through their ephemera archives! Their wrapping papers are way too nice to wrap with, most of them end up framed and hung on the wall. With products themed around famous cities, animals, travel, nature and all things vintage, Cavallini & Co. caters for all ages.

Bow Peep. It’s fun, colourful and I like how it repeats. (Could also have something to do with the fact that I designed it)

  What is your stationery indulgence?

Beautiful or fun greeting cards because most could pass as miniature artworks! I even buy them ahead of time and keep a stash at home.

What inspires you (in general)?

Art, music, design, DIY blogs, photography, graffiti, calligraphy, fresh colour combinations.

How do you spend your spare time?

Catching up with family & friends, walking my dog, pilates, watching live music, being creative, reading.

Is there anything else people would want to know about you?

I may have a slight obsession with skulls.

how to: line an envelope

Whether you’re inviting guests to a special event or writing a letter to someone you love, an envelope liner will really impress!

You will need:

An envelope

Your chosen paper liner

Cutting mat

Stanley trimmer

Ruler

Pencil

Glue tape

Scissors

STEP ONE: Measure the width of your envelope (ours was 145mm). Minus 5mm from your measurement and with your Stanley trimmer cut a line at your new width (ours will be 140mm), measuring from the shorter side of your paper.

STEP TWO: Measure the height along the centre of your envelope from the bottom side of the sealing gum to the base (ours was 235mm). Again minus 5mm from that measurement and cut the paper along its long side at your new measurement. (ours will be 230mm).

STEP THREE: Line your rectangular sheet on top of your envelope. It should be centred with the top lined up to the bottom side of the sealing gum. With a pencil place a mark at the top centre of your rectangle, and on each side where the flap folds. (see black crosses)

STEP FOUR: With a ruler line up the centre and the right hand side pencil marks. Cut along the ruler so you have removed a triangle from the top right corner. Do the same for the other side.

STEP FIVE: Using scissors round the tip of the triangular part of your liner.

STEP SIX: Roll some tabs of glue using your glue tape on the two side of the triangle and part way down the sides of the rectangle. (see black lines)

STEP SEVEN: You can now place the liner inside the envelope and secure. Fold along the envelope flap crease and you’re done!

If you have to line a lot of envelopes it's best to create a template with some scrap card and then use this to trace the shape onto your liner sheets. It will save you going through steps 1-4 for each envelope.

we're loving: february edition

fringe world festival

Just like Edinborough festival but on a smaller scale! Fringe World is on until the 24th of February and there really is a show for everyone. The shows are themed around cabaret, circus, comedy, music, dance, performance, visual arts and more, plus some are even free. Most of the venues are based in the Perth Cultural centre just near the Art Gallery of WA and Western Australia Museum which are super easy to get to. We’ve already been to 6 shows in one week!

san cisco

Western Australia has been producing some amazing musical acts these past few years and San Cisco is one of them. San Cisco is a four-piece indie pop band from Fremantle who got their big break on Triple J’s unearthed. They just released their first self-titled album on November 23rd 2012 and it’s full of fun, catchy tunes. The band are currently supporting The Vaccines on their tour of America and are then off to headline a tour of Europe. We think they’re destined for big things and hopefully the rest of the world agrees!
