Are you still taking prompts? If so could you write something about Azula teaching Zuko lighting? I'm a sucker for redemption and sibling bonding Thank you
A/N: I have never received a request with Azula and Zuko! And I have to say, I enjoyed it. I believe these two eventually developed a close and loving bond and that Azula does receive a second chance and in turn she supports Zuko. Thank you for the request!
He’s still not getting it right. Day after day of the same stance and the same formation and he just can’t get it right.
“Clearly, this is how my week will be.” Azula sighs, waving her hand and standing up from where she sat at the corner of the sparring grounds outside of the palace.
“You know, instead of making snarky remarks, how about a few pointers here.” Zuko points, throwing his hands in the air. He was already at his wit’s end, mimicking the form over and over until he almost collapsed.
Whenever Zuko had a small window of availability to strengthen his agility, he would spend it practicing formation. Since recently, he used every opportunity to practice creating lightning, recalling everything his uncle had taught him.
Two days ago, Azula had shown up, silently observing him until she couldn’t stand watching him blast fire in his face over and over again. And when he ended up on his back, twenty feet from where he stood, she rolled her eyes and demonstrated the correct way to perform.
“You over think too much, Zuzu.”
Zuko groans, rubbing his face. He knows he’s acting childish, the opposite of what a nineteen-year-old fire lord should do. But after years of trying on again and off again, the Fire Lord was beginning to feel at a lost. “Are you telling me not to think?” He bites sarcastically.
Shoving her brother to the side, Azula wipes her hands clean of sands. “When I say you over think, I mean that you analyze everything too mcuh; your movement.” Azula widens her legs, “your clarity,” she dipped her left hand, “feeling the energy as it separates,” then her right, electricity gathering around her, flashing like sparks, cracking and popping, the scent of smoke wafting in the air, “then come together as a whole as it rushes from you belly to your fingertips.”
Static rises in the air and Zuko remembers that feeling, that rush when he redirected lightining, only this time it felt ten times more exhilatering.
Azula finished her demonstration, crossing her arms and turning towards her brother.
“Now let’s get this over with, I swear, if I have to spend another minute out here with your constant whining, I’ll lose my shit and direct the lightning at you next time.”
Zuko laughs unexpectantly, coming up to ruffle Azula’s hair much to her annoyance. “Wouldn’t be the first time.” He jests. “Plus, I know what to do if that happens again.” The Fire Lord grins.
Stepping up, Zuko takes a deep breath, closing his eyes and focusing his attention all around him, from the heat in the air to the prickles on his skin. He mimics exactly what he memorized from Azula’s movements. Zuko hears the crackle, the static surfacing in the air just like when Azula demonstrated it, and when he feels it down in his belly and how it ignited, Zuko reaches out his left hand, first two fingers pointed, and all the energy that built up around him shook and released from his body.
He blinks twice, watching in slow motion.
It’s all over and all Zuko can do is stare. Azula’s ready to interrupt his stunned expression until she finds herelf swept off her feet and shook like a rag doll.
“Gah! Let go of me! What-are-you-doing?!”
Zuko’s laughing hysterically, squeezing Azula in a bear hug that took her breath away. Zuko sets her back on her feet.
“Thanks, ‘Zula.”
Azula shakes the dizziness from her head, growling. “Resume the stance again! Jeez, it’s just lightning!”
But when he turns his back for a moment, the former princess can’t help the corner of her lips briefly curving into a smile before disappearing.
