People love to say “Sasuke doesn’t like Sakura,” yet ignore that he referred to her as “nakama,” which carries meaning that people familiar with the language and culture understand. Fans who could read Japanese, usually Japanese fans, followed the manga in real time. I did too, but through two or three translations at the time, since fan translations weren’t fully reliable. That difference matters, because it removes layers of mistranslations and made-up headcanons. And for the record, I’m a Sasuke fan, not just a Sakura fan.
