Sis HBO heard the antis and snatched Alicent's hair extensions, her glow, her everything, it's just her blue dress against the world now. See I know she is a prisoner of war so she is not going to dress queenly but so is Hel, and while Hel also does not have good costuming, at least she has the wig! Alicent has a simplistic blue dress and that's it. I don't know what it is but her styling is so off this season, intentional or not. Maybe the haters really got HBO this time. Or maybe it really is just the hair!
Honestly, you read my mind because she just seems so off this season. I don't like that they are watering down her colors and making her look plain. If she's going to wear florent blue, she needs to wear it with some gold trimming, or at least give her something, for what it's worth. Her development this season is horrible, my god. Helaena looks super gorgeous though: I feel like they could've done something truly poetic with the mother-daughter duo since costumes are meant to represent their state of mind and where they are at in their lives. Stripping away Alicent's regal styling feels like a direct concession to the critics rather than a smart narrative choice. Even if she is functionally a prisoner of war, completely abandoning the high-effort hair and signature visual presence that defined her in earlier seasons just makes her screen time feel flat. It is incredibly frustrating to see her reduced to that one plain, unembellished blue dress scene after scene, while other characters in similar dire straits still get to maintain a basic level of character-specific costuming or a proper wig. Intentional or not, watering down her entire aesthetic to this degree doesn't make her look defeated it just makes her look entirely neglected by the wardrobe department.
