Do you think that morality is objective?
Ok so obvi within a religious framework, morality is objective. So im gunna go at this outside of any religious system.
Morality is objective as a system in which various frameworks can be applied to insofar that a truth value can be applied to almost any moral axiom undergirding a moral framework. So with a statement like “murder is wrong”, I believe this statement to be objective because you can apply a truth value to it (true or false). Now which truth value you choose to apply to that statement is a subjective endeavor that falls within cultural relativity, psychological variance, legal variance, etc.
Now to justify that claim, I would posit that you can anticipate certain results from the application of one of the two truth values. Results that have a usefullness that outweighs any evidence for or against the truth value. Similarily we do the same with science, which also happens to be undergirded by morality.
I think objective morality is neccessary and whether or not we believe it as individuals, we act and have to act as if its objective. If it weren’t objective then a statement like “murder is wrong” is meaningless in that it could not be verified or falsified. I genuinely invite someone to push back on this and challenge any of my thoughts on this.
Sorry anon, my heads not in a good place right now so this is the best I could do. I would also like to say that none of this is orginal to me. Im still not sure if Im gunna address the question on intentionality. Just because its kinda boring to me. Idk we’ll see.
Whoever you are, I love you. I needed this.
