My lovely SO @anonus bought me an early birthday gift: this vintage ‘80s keyboard!!

It’s a Realistic Concertmate 700, which is simply a rebranded Casio Casiotone MT-205, because it was sold at Radio Shack back when Radio Shack mattered enough to get away with slapping their own brand names on all the products they sold.

Even though it proudly advertises “Pulse Code Modulation” the only actual PCM samples are for the drum sounds. I’m not 100% sure what the details of the actual melodic sounds are, but if any synth nerds out there feel like explaining it to me, I’d love to hear it!

@anonus and I were out and about this afternoon and he snapped these photos of leftover signs from long-defunct businesses. Also the parking lot was filled with cute cardinals.

@anonus visited me over the weekend and we went on a ROAD TRIP to Michigan to see the House Industries exhibit at The Henry Ford Museum.

It was a lot of fun.

right now not really i’m honestly really birnt out 

but what was amusing was that a coworker got SUPER EXCITED for changing the way we sort CDs

What is your favorite instrument?

Oh, hey, another question! :D

That’s a hard question because there are so many different things I like in instruments. I really like old hands-on analogue and modular synthesisers, with lots of knobs and unpredictable variables. But at the same time, I also like acoustic instruments with a lot of range or an intriguing timbre. I’m particularly fond of gamelan instruments, reed organs, oboes, dulcimers, fretless basses of all types, and old curios like the viola d’amore and theorbo, which also happen to sound really nice. Oh, and the pipe organ, the original modular synth.

What I’m saying is I’m a huge geek for music stuff.

By the by, the electric guitar is also astonishingly versatile and Sonic Youth have done a great service to the world by introducing prepared instrumentation and alternate tuning to the masses. The sound of a slow pick scrape through slapback and flange~ <3

As a kid I got excited for Christmastime because I got cool presents.

As an adult I get excited for Christmastime because I get to spend time with @anonus in person.

I think this way is actually kinda better!

have you ever been kidnapped by dragons

It depends. Does it still count as “kidnapping” if I’m only pretending to fight and when we get back to the dragon’s lair he pops some popcorn for me with his fire breath and we sit around and watch Netflix all night?
