Hi! This is probably going to be a dumb question, but I've never had an ao3 account before, so I know little about the site. When I post my fill for a prompt in the sherlockkinkmeme collection on ao3, will it also appear on my own account or will that be hidden?
This is sooooo NOT a dumb question. It is a question I bet many people had but weren’t quite sure how to ask. So, thank you!
There are two ways to submit work to our AO3 collection…and both require you to have an AO3 account.
1) Post your fic to your AO3 and then add it to our collections page by entering our info in the area where you edit your fic. There are submission instructions on our main page.
2) Log into your AO3 and go directly to our collections page and upload a work to it *without putting it on your own AO3 first*
These two ways of submitting to our archive yield different results.
With Option #1… You can choose to be Anon (this is the default) or Listed as Author by letting us know you want this option by stating in Author’s Notes: “I WANT AN OFFICIAL AUTHOR BYLINE”.
***Even if you are Anon***, the work will appear **on your own AO3 page** as being written by you if you submit it this way. It will show as Anonymous with your pen name in brackets.
With Option #2… Your work **will not** appear on your page if you choose to remain Anon. However, if you request your pen name be officially added to it as an official author byline, it will magically appear on your page. There is the possibility for it to appear with your pen name on it *informally* on our page, but not have the fic appear at all on yours. To do this, you can put your pen name in the author’s notes only. “DE-ANONING IN AUTHOR’S NOTES”, followed by your pen name. This way, we will know not to formally list it as a non-anonymous, official, bylined work.
If you submit it this way, it will not show up on your AO3, you will nit be indexed as the author, and people reading your fic can only see who you are in the Author’s Notes section.
Feel free to contact us with more questions. If you would like to submit a sample work to see exactly how it will appear ( which I recommend you do if you are at all concerned about posting anonymously), please let us know and we will guide you through the process. :)
Remember: **if you do not specifically state you want an OFFICIAL AUTHOR BYLINE, it will be listed as anonymous** ( even if your name is in Author’s Notes, and even if you have told us you were the one claiming the prompt because we list it based on how it is presented to us when we add it to the AO3 archive.
Whether you submit it to us using Option 1, or Option 2 (for even greater privacy) is entirely up to you. We will not be able to determine which method you have chosen.
