Reflections from a park bench

I’m killing time before meeting my personal tutor (who I think is basically my academic advisor?) and I found out that the little park in the middle of our George Square campus has wifi! Hurrah! I spent yesterday in my room feeling a bit sick (feeling better today!) so it’s nice to be outside enjoying what’s left of this pleasant fall weather. I love how much green space there is in this city, especially around campus. It makes it feel much more peaceful.

I’m bummed I didn’t get to do anything yesterday, especially since there are just so many freshers week activities that I want to take advantage of to meet people. But this afternoon I made it to the societies fair (aka club fair), which was impressive. Just as crazy and quite similar to the ones at Brown, only bigger. I somehow went back into freshman mode and ended up putting down my email for possibly 10 or so societies. A lot of them sounded really cool though. Chocolate society? Yes please. (I’m gonna ignore the fact that it’s a £5 membership fee, because they’re going on a tour of a chocolate factory later this semester!!) Literary society and PublishED? Yes, because I never really joined anything to do with literature/writing at Brown. Come Dine With Us society that takes trips to restaurants and cafés? I’m starting to notice a food trend… I also ended up signing up for the photography society, people & planet (environmental of course), and the modern dance society. I’m definitely going to have to pick two or three but it’s a good way to make friends, right? And eat? Unfortunately, they all seem to have membership fees. I guess that's the price you pay to have fun?

I also just had my first Scottish squirrel sighting in this park! Unsurprisingly, they look just like North American squirrels, maybe a little slimmer though. It’s way up in a tree above me and I’m almost afraid it’s going to fall right on top of me. (It later came down and scampered across the grass in front of me and I snapped this picture.)
