Storm Chaser

Oh child I know both better and worse,

So much will come and test your mind and change

Your life, and you’ll come to know depths and heights,

But no matter – look, see that I survived.

Countless things have come and passed with time, and

I could not tell you all of it in this

Dwindling drabble; instead I’ll give advice:

The waves will crash – let them, and do not thrash.

You will find and lose thousands of things, some

Big and some small: cheap jewelry, yourself–

home is never where you think you left it;

So don’t fight the urge to explore, hermit.

Learn to follow the eye of the storm and

Thrive in chaotic calm which lies therein,

You are so much more than you think you are–

Prove it to yourself, not to old, fake friends.

Oh girl who’s still a piece of my soul and

Will learn the lessons I want to give now,

School, clubs, ‘home,’ friends, will break and then build you,

But no matter – continue to live life.
