Hey! I'm just wondering, do you think that they could/would ever go back into space? To get away from these nuclear reactor meltdowns? Or is that way too far fetched? (also thank you for feeding my Ice Mechanic heart haha!)
I mean, anything is possible, but I suspect they won’t for two reasons, one story-related and one cost/set-related.
For story purposes, it’s a little farfetched to have them build a rocket with enough power to send them into space, not to mention the fact that most of the Ark crashed over a fairly large area and probably isn’t in good enough shape to go into space. So “we’re rebuilding the Ark and launching back into space” is a much tougher sell, narratively, than “hey would you look at that, the 4% that’s habitable just happens to be on this continent.”
Logistically, I would think “we’re rebuilding the Ark” might take more CGI than they have in the budget, plus it would eventually eliminate the outdoors as a filming location. That might have some advantages budget-wise, but it would also mean eventually they’d only have the Ark sets to film on. That could get visually boring, since even Battlestar Galactica (which I LOVE) had them periodically land on different planets for a change of scenery.
But, with all of that being said: I am frequently very, very wrong at guessing plot, and since the writing just started, your guess is as good as mine.
(And long live ice mechanic!)
