They say eye contact is how souls catch on fire. They say eye contact is more intimate than words will ever be.

They’re right.

Looking into another’s eyes is gazing into their souls. Looking into someone’s eyes is unlocking all their secrets. Looking into another’s eyes is to see if they’re broken or not. Because their eyes will say it all.

Their face may be painted with a smile and their mouths may be talking as if nothing is wrong − but their eyes will give it all away. Their eyes will show you everything. There might be flames dancing in their eyes or tears forming a slick cover over their irises but either way, looking into another’s eyes will give everything away.

Write a tragedy. Write misfortune. Write a complete disaster. If you have a hero, remember to give them hell, got it? Make them face their biggest fear, make them lose their loved ones, make them feel like the world hates them. Break them. Shatter them into fragments.

If they’re truly heroes, they’ll come out of it. Perhaps still broken. Perhaps still a total mess. Whatever it is, give your characters hell. Make them feel nothing. And then make them feel everything.

You tell me that I’m broken. You tell me that I shouldn’t do this and I shouldn’t do that. You tell me that I need to lose weight. You tell me that I need to learn to talk respectfully. You tell me to just sit quiet.

You tell me so many things.

You don’t have a right to.

You don’t deserve to tell me anything because you have no idea that I’ve already told myself the exact same things.

I know I’m broken. I know there are things I shouldn’t be doing. I know that my body size has to be something you’re ok with it. I know that sometimes it’s better to just be quiet.
