Catching Rain with Continuous Lighting....a funny thing happened while doing my shoot in Los Angeles at the Rain Studio....I brought the strobes to capture and freeze frame the water, and on a whim decided to test to see if continuous lighting could pull it off.... Mission Accomplished. This shot was done with an Anova Pro 2 as my key light and the Rotolight Aeos as my Rim. Both in continuous mode, not flash...:) The model is the stunning Hannah who just happens to be joining me as one of the models on our excursion to Cuba next week. I can't wait! Cultivating Creativity- the longer I'm in this profession, the more I aspire to be an Ambassador of Creativity more than anything. And part of that role to me is finding and helping creatives to grow and reach their true potential. This past week I had the opportunity do that with the incredible @karmanteena during WPPI week. Together we were able to create some truly incredible work that took us on many adventures into a variety of different places. And we just created. Many of you have heard my belief that creatives need to be in a situation where they can just play. Like a 5 year old. The longer I'm in the business and the more confident I've become, the more I just play without rules or boundaries. I truly just create. For those who have never been on a shoot with me, they are the epitome of organic. I find a location. We look through the wardrobe options on location and I choose what we shoot. I then walk around the entire area, finding props to help bring it all together. Model, wardrobe, props, and then the final composition. This past week Olga and I just played. And for a creative there is no more liberating feeling like that in the world. At first Olga wondered what I was doing with my voodoo finders (kinda like jazz hands lol), but as the week went on she grew to understand that I didn't care what I looked like, I was just there to create. And she was amazing at joining me on this beautiful journey. Creatives need creativity in their lives like all of us need oxygen. We need true creativity and other creatives in our lives to feel whole. This is what I aspire to do every day I have left on this planet. Unite with creatives to play. So if you haven't done so already, find those creatives you need in your life to make you whole. And start to breathe again.... Dual Threat- the best thing about having @em.explores is that she’s a fantastic Photographer on top of being an amazing model and Assistant! This is a really cool production shot she grabbed last night while I was setting up for our Red Queen studio shoot. The talent this lady has just blows me away...:) By the time I was done we ended up using 2 Rotolight Anova Pro 2's, 1 Aeos, and 1 Neo 2. We are really getting creative with the lighting my friends and yes there are a lot of videos coming for all of you. Thank you for your patience as we are cranking out the shoots.. Framing- one of the most challenging things for photographers is to compose and frame a shot. This image taken at my workshop at the Salton Sea shows how I chose to frame the image with @em.explores in between the environment and the building. The other thing to note is the straight lines. You need to line up your lines with something straight in the composition to make them correct. I lit the shot using the Rotolight Anova Pro 2 to give it a spotlight effect. The sky? Well sunset at the Salton Sea is just beautiful. We'll be showing select footage of this workshop in an upcoming video. Stay tuned!
