Pride Month Tag
@andtheotherwriter tagged me to do this A YEAR AGO... (this post is a monument of procrastination)
Jacobi: hetero-flex
Lauri: gay, he realizes during the events of the first book and acts on it
Cyrillon: pan, but he has serious issues with emotional closeness and no idea how to deal with his feelings and express them :D He has basically lived his life in celibacy
Ruben: aro-ace, which he explains at some point
Anru: Skardi to her bones, she doesn't believe in gender, but in the social construct of a warrior class to which she belongs, she's pan and very upfront about her sexuality and what she wants
There are so much more, but either I didn’t mention the characters on Tumblr yet or they are keeping their sexuality a secret (and I’m no snitch xD), which in some cases will be revealed during the story. Look out for the sad lesbian, the bi guy who doesn’t give a fuck (or does he :DD) and the forming polyam relationship.
About the Skardi (wolf shapeshifter) in general: Since their shifter abilities nullify the physical differences in strength and dexterity, they don't distinguish between sex / genders. Their society is divided into utsjorn (~bloodborn, hunters / warriors) and the rest of the people. Every Skardi has the right to face the blood trial when they turn thirteen and if they participate and pass, they become utsjorn and fill the societal roles that come with that status.
To summ it up: Skardi don't identify as male or female or neither and most of them don't feel comfortable with that distinction, because it diminishes their life choices, achievements and identity. (if I wrote in Englisch most of them would use 'they / them'-pronouns, but I'm writing in German, where pronouns are a little tricky and I haven't figured out how to solve this one yet)
Sexuality and sexual preferences among the Skardi: If they want to do something with someone, they do it (as long as the other person(s) wants that, too). There are no taboos and monogamy isn't really a thing, though some of them prefer to be with one person exclusively. Due to that, most of them don't know their fathers and only the maternal bloodline is documented in their names. Happy incest day, fuckers :D
Cyrillon and Lauri are a little different, because Lauri was raised in a human family and Cyrillon has lived with humans long enough to fully understand the concept of gender. He doesn't care about it though, and he doesn't care about being utsjorn either, eventhough he completed the trial. (he doesn't care about anything - he's pretty much dead inside™)
I'm tagging @kittensartsbooks @dove-actually @theprissythumbelina @siarven @otters-holding-hands @ardawyn @eluari @wortfinder @writerlyclaire @zwergis-spilledink and @kainablue if you guys want to!
