The skarr in silksong are red ants, that focus a lot on hunting, and prefer a damp, warm area (Look at how verdant Hunter's March & Far field are... and it's located under water areas like Greymoor).

They also have Major/supermajor ants, so they are a species with cast dysmophism.

As far as I am in the game, none have shown a stinger attack, which make me think they do not have one.

Right now I think they could be Pheidole Ants, but I'm still not sure if there are Pheidole species that like damp area. Then again, Pheidole are very diverse genus, so it's not impossible.

I don't have any actual colonies right now, but I'm raising one from scratch with the help of this here girl:

I think she's some kind of Tetramorium species, but I canottt tell which one ;_; Tetramorium queens all look the same to me 😭 Hopefully when the workers hatch, I will be able to tell.

As excited as I am, I'm also kind of scared of these... Tetramorium are a very feisty genus overall, very territorial and very strong for their size. Biting is their first response to Literally Anything, which is unfortunate for me. They have these giant muscly heads that chomp down, lock up and don't let go. But I mean look at them they're so pretty.

Of the ants I used to keep previously, my largest colony was Lasius niger species, with like 200 ants in it, so still very small. Here are some photos ^w^

Loved to watch them eat and explore and react to things... That's why I'm getting new ones ^_^ Really missed just looking over at my bookshelf and seeing what they're up to.

weekly check up on da new goil, shes laid another round of eggs and up to about 10 now (from ~3) v industrious start compared to my first queen, tho granted she had the disadvantage of being in a plastic bottle for awhile. but yh, she’s so cute! you can see all the cotton shes been pulling. yay interior decorating

Guuuuys I got my first ant farm!

They're golden tail sugar ants, aka Camponotus Aeneopilosus! So named for the golden markings on the worker's abdoment (gaster). They're an Australian species from NSW and ACT.

Queen Lola has 5 workers and I gave them their first meal today, which they absolutely devoured- a drop of honey and a baby cricket.

The lower portion of the antennae is called the funiculus. (in other parts of biology a funiculus is a bundle of nerve fibers, and this is the most sensitive part of the ant, so it makes sense... also what could be more FUN that tapping everything with your antennae?)
