So there were lots of posts on here about advice for the UK during their heatwave, but how about some for my fellow Australians who are currently experiencing below average, and below freezing, temperatures due to an Antarctic vortex at the moment? We aren’t used to this kind of climate. It’s snowing in some parts of my state at the moment…a state whose climate is usually classed as tropical.
Remember guys:
Check your neighbours, especially if they’re elderly, as they’re most susceptible to these kinds of conditions.
Keep hydrated. It’s not necessarily as appealing to grab a cool drink of water in this weather, which is why dehydration can be a large issue in cold weather.
Feel free, those who are more used to this kind of a weather, to add some more tips, especially snow related. There’s very, very few places that snow here, so most of us have no idea.

“Freezing Antarctic air is set to bring sub-zero temperatures and an almost even chance of snow to Queensland’s far south.
The so-called “Antarctic vortex” sending the mercury plummeting south of the border is due to turn the Sunshine State into the warm, cosy blanket state from early Sunday morning.” quotes the Brisbane Times yesterday.
Today I was sunning myself on the balcony and this is my view of Bramble Bay in the outer Brisbane area.
It certainly has cooled off and the wind has picked up but if you find a sunny patch out of the breeze, winter in Queensland isn’t too bad. How is everyone else in the state doing? Anyone would think the ‘White Walkers” were coming, if you go by the news.

I went out into the antarctic vortex today. Excuse me while I wring a sizeable lake from my hair.
