Honestly, yeah, Australia wildlife is probably more dangerous than a lot of places, but living here you don’t really notice because from the time when you’re young you’re brought up to have good ‘safari etiquette’. Don’t shove your hands under rocks where you can’t see, never touch or go within a couple of meters of wild animals, always wear proper thick shoes when out walking, always assume that an injury from an animal you don’t know is something to keep a close eye on.
And a lot of it’s just common sense that you should be doing already. Stay on the bush tracks, don’t leave small children outside unattended, don’t go into water that isn’t part of a public area.
You’re not going to get a sting from a cone snail unless you break the sacred ‘take only photos, leave only footprints’ rule and honestly if you do end up carking it, well, I’m not gonna say you deserved it but I am gonna give you some major side-eye because you’re kinda the one that started it by being disrespectful of Country in the first place.
Which makes it even weirder when some yank comes up to you, talking about how “I could never live where you are, it’s soooo dangerous!!”, and then you see them on the news a day later mauled to death because they got drunk and picked a fistfight with a bear.
