hihi i dont know anything about caves but i would like to know about any cave-dwelling micro organisms or "rare" cave shapes? if that is information to be called upon? if neither is a valid question PLEASE take this as an invitation to Go Off I love osmosis learning from people :)

i actually have both! well not exactly a micro organism, cuz one of em is a beetle. but! i hope you enjoy regardless.
and theyre BOTH from the same cave!
petrunkevitch’s cave beetle is (or was…) a beetle living in skyline caverns! not much is known about it because when the scientists who discovered it removed some to try to learn more about them, the entire known population died. the ones they removed died, and when they came back they couldnt find any more. depression! theres a possibility that these scientists caused the extinction of a rare cave beetle by discovering it!
the weird thing about these beetles is they had pigment. they were brown. usually pigment is lost in cave dwellers, so maybe these beetles didnt actually live down there and just found their way in on accident?
well, that doesnt make sense. because they didnt have eyes! which is kind of exclusive to cave dwellers.
so, what the hell. unfortunately we just… dont know! the answer could extremely easy, or something completely wild. hopefully it turns out that they didnt all die off and we find more eventually!
AND NOW FOR THE EXTREMELY RARE FORMATION ONLY FOUND IN 2 CAVES!
anthodites!
anthodites are small white flower shaped (hence their name) crystals that have only been found in one other place! france! i think! i dont remember but i think it was france. dont quote me on this. the largest one so far is called the chandelier and is in skyline caverns, and hangs from a tiny little crystal rod.
its unknown how they grow or form, because both of formations were discovered in sealed off places and stopped growing after they were opened up. its possible that they could only grow in certain circumstances, and unsealing them fucked up the chemical balance.
here are some pictures of anthodites from my last visit to skyline! unfortunately i didnt get one of the chandelier, but if you go to the skyline caverns website theyve got a picture of it there. go check it out, its really cool.
