porto was a last minute add to our honeymoon. thanks to the flight schedule changing, we were able to fly out a few days earlier and add in an extra destination. we chose porto. personally i was inspired by tony's porto episods in both no reservations and parts unknown. also, it was highly recommended by friends.

and what a choice it was. porto was amazing.

it's a hilly city with extremely friendly locals. i must say that portuguese were significantly nicer than italians and spanish. there was this sense of welcoming hospitality towards foreigners. all of our interactions with hotel staff, restaurant workers, tour guides, etc. were positive and friendly. the only time i got yelled at was when i was waiting for a restaurant to open a portuguese grandma yelled out something to me as she walked up the alley into her house. i'm pretty sure she said "you dumb ass the restaurant will open when they want to open!" lol.

food. we must talk about food and drinks. every little thing we ate were delicious. small fried fish. the majestic hot dog deviant. the octopus salad. the devilish francesinha. and just give me all the nates in the town. along with super bock on draft. all the bottles of vinho verdes. port wine was not my favorite - something i don't mind savoring but didn't find it to be exquisite.

the favorite part of the visit was watching sunset over douro river. we grabbed a cheap bottle of vinho verdhe and found ourselves among the crowd at jardim do morro. we sat there, sipping on wine, enjoying the crowd, and live music by a brazilian artist. the old city to the right, the new city to the left, surrounding the curvy river as the sunsets over the atlantic. what a scene. what a city.
