Okay ya I agree with all of your points tbh!!!
I’ve always felt that way about specifically the nsfw side of the anthro community, but I’m also sex repulsed ace and just kinda get told to shut up about issues regarding nsfw in general because apparently i am bias </3 but the people who exclusively get off to animal behaviors/appearances (even humanized) are weird and predatory.
I never thought that much into sfw anthros disrespecting animals, but after going vegan and getting involved in activism I have been drawing a lot more just like,,, animals, and not humanized animals. Didnt really think of why, but now that Im considering it for more than like 30 seconds it definitely does feel like a respect thing. When you view animals as complex individuals on their own theres not much of a need to make them more human.
Although a lot of my old anthro art was more of a technical crutch honestly. Like, animal anatomy was difficult to draw, and I already knew how to draw humans. I think thats the case for a lot of newbie artists specifically, oftentimes its just easier from a skill level to draw humans figures, as thats the first thing most artists learn.
Thank you for responding btw :)
YES THANK YOU FOR GETTING IT OMG
The way most people view animals has a really similar vibe to gender ideology, objectification, sexualization, claiming to be them etc, and often coincides with objectifying/infantilizing/sexualizing/claiming to be women. Is there a word for that? Like when you objectify and project yourself onto someone or something so much that you start to believe you are that thing or just pretend to be that thing all the time? Like with transracial, therian, furry, trans and all that? There really needs to be a word for that if not. Obsession isnt quite concise enough. Objectification is close but it doesnt cover the "i want to pretend to be this" part.
