TW for implied racism/cultural appropriation & n-slur usage
disclaimer: when i say transrace, i'm referring to the people who misuse/stole the term to refer to "transitioning" to another race
i found a post in the wild, cropped for their anonymity because harassment isn't cool, and oh my god.
woah transrace people invalidating/ignoring someone of that race??? a transrace person using a slur they can't bodily reclaim?????? transrace people watering down and romanticizing the culture of the race they're "transitioning" to?????????? who COULDA FUCKING GUESSED this would happen 😀 /sarc
"i ain't saying [they're] racist [or anything], but..." I AM!!! THEYRE BEING RACIST AND APPROPRIATING YOUR CULTURE HOW ARE YOU SO GODDAMN BLIND

heyyy. random question timee: whats a rant you haven't had an excuse to rant about yet. can be anything normal or controversial or venty i just wanna hear :>
see this is an awesome question and i appreciate you so much for asking me this !!! also im happy you specifically sent this cuz i dont feel that we interact with each other as much and tumblr is allergic to showing me your posts on my feed for some reason so i keep thinking where did they go 🥀🥀 but didn't know how to say anything
ive been trying to make this blog more lighthearted/fandom-focused while keeping @purple--starrrs more political like this but uhhh fuck it i got the ask on this blog so it gets answered on this blog
anyways i was just thinking to myself about how engrained racism is in our society and how there are so many things i can name off the top off my head that are partially, fully, or otherwise involved with racism and reinforcing racism, and the dots are so vividly connect to me and yet i know there are people who will hear me say such and view literally no correlation. stuff like calling locs "dreads," any dress codes on how to style hair, expecting people to shave body hair, being against self-diagnosis, loitering laws, any form of religious supremacy, the word "uncivilized," and being transphobic in any regard (especially exorsexism), among other things. all of these things are things i think make you racist, or at the very least are proof that you have racial bias that you've yet to unpack and unlearn.
anyways, this line of thinking reminded me of trace/transrace/transracials/RCTA/whatever you wanna call "i can identify as black, white, asian, or any other race regardless of my ethnic and racial reality." How a lot of transphobic people will say "well, if you can identify as a different gender, where's the boundary? how is not supporting rcta as a trans person not hypocritical?" and how a lot of explanations for this I've seen from pro-trans people are "well thats just a stupid comparison" "[some metaphor related to wood that i didnt understand]" "gender is a social construct while race isnt" (not true) etc etc. basically we've heard a bunch of bullshit that didnt make sense to us and had us asking, wait yeah, what does make the difference? i still don't feel that rcta is right or anything, but why do i feel that gut feeling, and what makes it wrong? what stops me from becoming "transwhite" or something?
those aren't questions i asked myself just now, just ones I've had in the past, and we've come to the realization that we do have an answer:
gender and race are both social constructs. however, they are social constructs with completely different foundations. gender as it's own concept is not made for bigotry. gender is something that has been used as a way for people to express themselves and find community in ways that have been different between people-groups. if you look at indigenous cultures (admittedly, i have not looked into many yet), you can see that many of them had different genders outside of our gender binary, and that those genders existed for cultural and often spiritual reasons, and that they are not tied to physical traits or genitalia or whathaveyou, but personal growth and understanding. gender as it exists now in modern day western society is used as a tool of oppression, however the concept of gender is not innately tied to that concept.
meanwhile, race itself was specifically crafted for racism. it is essential for people to know the difference between ethnicity and race for this because i think confusing the two will make it difficult for one to understand what i mean by this. ethnicity is based off of culture, history, location, etc., in a naturally occurring way. race is not naturally occurring. ethnicity is stuff like kenyan, indonesian, iranian, italian, hawaiian, efc. race is stuff like black, brown and white. you know how people say white people don't have a culture? that is because although individual people-groups like italian, british, swedish, etc will have their own customs and cultures, the only reason all of them are grouped into one identity as white is so they can have more power to oppress others. race is a construct that exists for the purpose of oppression. it's a part of why our society will group such vastly different cultures are the same or similar enough, like how africa is just viewed as the black people country (its not a fucking country) and all black people are african because they have african descent, why people talk about "asians" like theyre a monolith when in reality they are just speaking about the chinese, the japanese, and the korean people while every other asian group they can think of have to be called "brown" and "not really asian" (if they're aware that places like india are in asia at all), why there can't be a white history month but there are historical events and dedications to certain cultures associated with whiteness, like being irish.
identifying as a different race is harmful because it treats race as a social custom and presentation as opposed to a tool invented for the purpose of conquering and oppressing, while gender is genuinely rooted in social customs, presentation and culture. race was invented for racism, gender was not invented for gender-based discrimination.
anyways this post is in fact about thoughts i have been having including assumptions that i haven't fully researched, it truly is fresh off my mind so if im serving any inaccurate information it is because i was just thinking and not researching to make sure what i was saying was actually historically accurate. truly organic thinking. but thank you sm for letting me rant icon !!!!! appreciate you !!!!!!
To anyone doomscrolling these tags, it's gonna be okay. You'll always be valid and there are people who accept you all over the place! Have a great day and have a cookie 🍪

[Reminder that harm against minors is a tumblr report option that should be used!]
I’m so serious when I say this but if someone says they want to rape children fucking report them. Instantly. Tumblr will request an email response with links, and I’d suggest using a third party archive source if at all possible.
I mean, how much more blatant can it be? They're not even hiding it behind "transition" or "dysphoria" anymore; they're just straight up saying they're faking disorders. Honestly, the Radquer community is just full of fakers and racist people who want to make fun of the trans community, whether they're trans themselves or not.
