I have two theories on why Tumblr is so adamant about fucking with reblogs. The first is money--they're trying to set up for some new kind of monetization scheme. The second is that there's some idiot in upper management trying to put their stank on things.
I used to work for a shitty online retailer. They hired a new director they put in charge of branding. This person ran our creative team through months of meetings, concepts, critiques, presentations--the works.
You know what eventually came of it? They added an exclamation point at the end of the slogan. The old logo was considered "too iconic" to change, so after countless hours and god knows how much money spent--they added an exclamation point.
That's kinda how this feels. Someone in a suit wants to make a major change, gets shot down, so they make a stupid change instead, then end up bragging how their change improved some obscure metric.
I hate corporations so much.
