Afterlife Chapter 9

Left behind in Night City, V is slowly dying as the relic destroys her body. Rather than lie down and die, she decides to leave her flesh behind and look for Johnny beyond the Blackwall.

When V and Johnny smashed Mikoshi, they released thousands of souls into Alt’s care. Every one of them followed her past the Blackwall, to Ghost City, where the soulkilled can live under her protection. V will soon find out that living as a disembodied engram is weirder than she imagined. She might be free from the ravages of the Relic, but trouble has a way of finding her.

“Don’t have to, but I’m not gonna hear the truth from you, am I?” She snarls, shoving him, her hands making solid contact with his Kevlar-wrapped chest. He stumbles. The two of them exchange startled glances for half a second. Then he shoves her back, ranting.

“Isn’t this a bit of a déjà vu? You’re as bad as she was! Can’t understand why you just can’t fuckin’ drop it.” Johnny’s voice gets louder, but it’s only bluster. He’s doing that thing he does when someone lands a hit too close to home.

“‘Cause we’re about to ask her for help, dumbass!” V takes a moment, forces herself to cool down. No. She’s seen his memories of him fighting with Rogue, with Alt, with Kerry. She knows how he falls back on the same ol’ tactic of being loud, dismissive, and insufferable until the other person gets to the point of letting it drop out of frustration. There’s no winning a screaming match with Silverhand. Screaming is what he does.

But V is stubborn in ways Johnny is about to know intimately. She glares at his stupid face.

And then she pushes deeper into his head.

If he won’t give her the truth, she’ll take it.

There it is again, that moment of hesitation creeping into his features. His eye twitches, his lips tighten. Anyone else would’ve missed it, but Kerry knows this man better than anyone. Yeah, he’s banged more people than the population of Texas, but Kerry’s known him the longest. He can read this bastard like a book, knows the subtle cues that tell him he’s getting under his skin like an engorged tick.

“What’s the matter, Johnny?” He teases, pulling the leash taut before grabbing at his crotch through his jeans. “Uncomfortable? Hot and bothered?”

“Fuck you,” he creaks, just the hint of a tremor in his voice. Johnny knocks back the rest of his drink in a single gulp.

“Oh, don’t you worry.” Kerry bites at his bottom lip. “You’re about to.”

I think the most appropriate approach to dealing with AI slopmongers is to block them. Deny them the dopamine hit.

Here's my advice: turn your timestamps on if you haven't already. If there's an image you're not sure about, it will probably have very few interactions (unless the post is very new). That lack of hearts is your clue to take a closer look. The devil's in the details. Sometimes honest artwork slips through the cracks. The tells aren't so obvious anymore, and you have to use your critical thinking skills.

But don't feel bad if you got got. You can take back your hearts, delete your reblogs. I'm sure they love seeing their engagement numbers go down.

Posting AI images of fandom blorbos is SHAMEFUL. Using gen ai to make slop content is pathetic, but sharing it should feel like the embarrassment you get when your mom threw away your best porno mag. No one's fighting for your right to AI. Keep it to yourself. It's gross. It should feel like whipping your dick out at a family reunion--something you'd only do during your worst stress nightmares.

And don't forget to share and heart honest artwork from newbie artists that might not look as impressive just yet. Our encouragement helps motivate artists to improve their craft, and we need that more than ever.
