Don’t let the BASTARDS get you down, Lara. Literally.
This is some upgrade from Yamatai, at the very least –– where arrows were only lit on fire; now she has to worry about flame and rope, a contradiction which should burn itself out, but still makes her life ABSOLUTELY difficult when arrows attempt to sink into her, the archers behind the bows dying to reel her in like a fish on a hook.
“ Come on, come on, ” she whispers out-loud, scaling the boarded-up side of a condemned town house and through a window with b r o k e n glass lining its edges like a street-fighter’s bared teeth. A hair-line nick cuts open her bicep, but it’s nothing compared to the horrors of Yamatai.
Funny how before all that, she’d have lost her marbles over the mere concept of whatever diseases might be crawling over a place like this. Once you survived crazed cultists and power-hungry sun gods, though... tetanus doesn’t seem so scary in comparison.
In the festering dark, with nothing but her torch to lead the way, Lara keeps to the floor, crawling past blocked windows and gaps in the walls to reach salvation at the other side. There, she allows herself a breath. Good thing too, because next thing Lara Croft knows as she swings up onto the second floor is one SHARP inhale, and the ripple-whoosh-crack! of her fist flying into a shadowed man’s face. She hates to think it was INSTINCT ––– but it is. Survival’s imbued in her blood now, and nothing can wash it out.
&. @antiiheroics liked from LARA.
