an EA did another metempsychosis website and everyone was clapping and saying i know what Rawls is. so i reread the Myth of Er. Mr Plato is much better at this. the EA myth is pretty much "The science is settled. Your next life is going to be a villager in uttar pradesh and the only choice is whether you will invest in a mosquito net for yourself now or die of the fever" which is very dull because it takes away the spaciousness of Mr Plato's myth but okay a constraint is a constraint. Mr Plato has only 20 lives lying before the spindle to pick, albeit strangely consonant ones for the characters given. It is more science this way
But it can be interpreted in the four ways Mr Plato gives, ideally that of the philosopher who chooses his next life before the spindle of ananke based on undying and eternal virtue which is here: intercosmic thrift; or as the idiot who got into heaven through no virtue of his own and is good only because he got into a good college who therefore picks a life for its romantic qualities but spins a complicated story about why; or as the chastened evildoer scrabbled up from hell, who wants a life where the implacable bureaucracy is distantly benevolent to her; or as the idiot come fresh from the world who falls back into another life overcorrecting the folly of his previous life where, i presume, he had expensive and difficult problems to fix, rather than just not having a 2 dollar malaria net
