Anton McCray on his way to his rape trial in the Central Park Jogger case, 1990. McCray and four other defendants, all of them between 14 and 16, were convicted based on bogus confessions manufactured by police who got five scared teenagers to agree to anything by keeping them isolated and on edge for days and then promising the boys they could go home if they would say which of the others did the crime, which none of them knew anything about. Didn't matter, the cops provided them with all the details and only asked that they parroted them back, one by one. Prosecutor malpractice added to the travesty of justice carried out in an atmosphere of anti-black anti-latino anti-youth hysteria stoked by news organizations eager to create myths of demon minority teenagers for ratings and sales.
