Friend, in Julius Caesar, VI.I. when lepidus says: "upon condition Publius shall not live, who is your sister's son, mark antony" what is he saying. Antony.didn't have sister......
1. He is saying… something I can’t explain. Of course, one expects to see Lucius Caesar (Plut. Ant. 19-20) as a discussed victim. I believe that Shakespeare rarely makes random changes, but in this case I have no idea why he would substitute ‘sister’s son Publius’ for ‘mother’s brother Lucius’. Theories, anyone? [Perhaps decided to save all uncle-killing for Hamlet? ^__^]
2. However, I looked up Antony’s relatives on ancientrome.ru, and it appears that M. Antonius Creticus did have a daughter. Though quite obscure one, so it’s quite improbable Shakespeare could know about her. This is the entire record on her:
Antonia (circa 78 bce - after 56 bce)
In 56 bce was a wife of P. Vatinius, cos. 47 bce. [Cic. Vat. 28—29; Schol. Bob. p. 321]. By 45 bce either died or divorced Vatinius. [Cic. Fam. V 11, 2]
Cic. Vat. 28:
And now, indeed, Caius Antonius consoles himself under his misery with this one fact that he had rather be at a distance to hear that the images of his father and his brother, and that his brother’s daughter, are placed, not in the house of their family, but in prison, than be at hand to see it.
Scholia Bobiensia (now I know wtf Scholia Bobiensia is):
Cic. Fam. V 11, 2 only adds that by 45 bce Vatinius was married to Pompeia. Nothing at all is known about his children, and in any case Vatinius was a supporter of triumvirate. So this Antonia doesn’t fit in Shakespeare’s passage.
Egzorcyzm Świętego Antoniego
Pomoc w walce z pokusami, do odmawiania o dowolnej porze dnia. Jak uczy Tradycja Kościoła Katolickiego, św. Antoni Padewski nauczył tej modlitwy pewną znękaną kobietę, szukającą pomocy w walce z pokusami złego ducha. Papież Sykstus V, franciszkanin, polecił wyryć tekst modlitwy, określanej mianem „zawołania św. Antoniego”, na postumencie obelisku górującego nad placem św. Piotra w…
