Antonio Lotti’s Crucifixus, performed by The 16. I came across this choral work in 2011, and have always been enthralled by the opening notes and dissonance. A wonderful work from the Baroque era. Lotti lived from 1667-1740. The text of this work comes, I believe, from the Nicene Creed. It speaks of Jesus’ crucifixion sub Pontio Pilato: under Pontius Pilate.
