How the English Language Impacts My Life

Hello, everyone!

My name is Flavya, I’m 18 years old, and I’m originally from Paraná. I came to Rio de Janeiro to pursue my dream of studying Law at UFRJ. Along this journey, I discovered a deep passion for competitive debate, which has been incredibly enriching.

This year, I began learning English, and it’s been a challenging yet rewarding experience. I can’t say I’m fluent yet, but when I reflect on my progress, I realize how far I’ve come. At the beginning, I could barely understand anything in English, but now, I’m able to incorporate it into my daily life. Whether it’s in university assignments, reading books, listening to music, or watching movies, English is everywhere. It feels like an essential part of my academic and personal growth.

But learning English is not always easy. There are moments when I feel frustrated because I’m not where I want to be. Sometimes I get discouraged, thinking I’m still at a basic level. However, looking back at how much I’ve already learned helps me keep going. These little steps forward are what motivate me to continue improving.

When I use English, I feel excited, as it opens up so many opportunities. It connects me with different cultures, allows me to explore new ideas, and enhances my ability to communicate with people from all over the world. English is becoming more than just a language to me – it’s a tool that expands my horizons and shapes my identity.

Umanità è un film di Elvira Giallanella realizzato nel 1919, all’indomani della prima guerra mondiale. Di impianto fantastico e marcata dalle idee socialiste, la pellicola riflette sulla possibilità di creare un’utopica società pacificata e solidale. La storia è quella di due bambini, unici superstiti a una catastrofe che ha distrutto l’umanità. Accompagnati come in un contesto fiabesco da uno gnomo, si aggirano fra le macerie della società e si scoprono impotenti a qualsiasi tentativo di ricostruire il mondo perché i segni di violenza e di distruzione sono sparsi ovunque, anche dentro di loro. Il finale, dal taglio documentaristico, alterna immagini di persone al lavoro a frasi e messaggi pacifisti, immaginando un mondo nuovo in cui il lavoro funga da agente di unità e pacificazione.

Cabeki è una macchina musicale assemblata da Andrea Faccioli, chitarrista / compositore veronese. I suoi ingranaggi si muovono fra strumenti convenzionali e non, in una sequenza di ambientazioni sonore che vanno dal Mississippi al Marocco, dal kraut al blues, dalla musica da camera e all’elettronica minimale. Appassionato di effetti analogici e di strumenti meccanici, alla ricerca di timbriche e suoni, Faccioli si circonda di strumenti come il banjo, la chitarra lapsteel, il cumbus (oud turco), la mandriola (mandolino a 12 corde), il bouzouki, e strumenti non convenzionali come l’ukelin, l’autoharp e la bellharp (strumenti americani dei primi del ‘900, derivati dal zither e dal salterio). Nel 2014 è entrato nella band di Vasco Brondi, Le Luci Della Centrale Elettrica, come chitarrista nel tour di “Costellazioni” (Tempesta/Sony).
