And not just for Western fashion, and not just AMERICAN. God, it frustrates me. In any given community for historical research I have previously found, it's always WWII European theatre stuff. And it's often just guns. Then you get to the complicated stuff like Chinese history. What are the chances you'll get someone from mainland China nowadays?

But most of all, it's to avoid just approaching a random stranger for a cultural/historical question that, out of context, is just flat out rude, invasive, and intrusive. And just because you are a part of some group doesn't mean you're obligated to answer every question some outsider drops on your lap for no reason. I don't mind unsolicited questions about my culture, but that's because of my personality--an eternally inquisitive personality in love with knowledge, but not everyone has this.

I'm often tempted to try to make a Discord or some other blog that is devoted to history, historical fiction, and period fashion and customs around the world, but the last time I made a community Discord in any capacity, only a handful of people showed up and the community died down fast. If any folks know any sort of community focused on history, customs, and fashion around the world (that is NOT 75% WWII European/American theater), I would be eternally grateful.
