we're doing West Side Story at school and our musical director had me (Anybody's) singing in a song partially about woo-ing girls so being me I screamed "ANYBODY'S IS A LESBIAN" to which the director said "it doesn't say anywhere in the script she's a lesbian" and 3 other people argued that it never said she's straight either so long story short Anybody's is a lesbian and I made it a rule

still haven’t watched the West Side Story remake movie (I pay very little attention to remakes and especially movie adaptations of musicals, I’d rather not set myself up for disappointment), but I heard they apparently made Anybody’s trans or nonbinary which tbh is annoying

like the whole point of Anybody’s is that she’s a young girl trying to join a male environment, she’s very clearly just a tomboy in the musical and original movie

I’m not a feminist but I do find it ridiculous how it’s yet another case of wokies trying to pander to trans/nonbinary people at the expense of women. It’s more of them basically saying “women can only do ‘male’ things if they completely reject all femininity.” It amazes me how the same group of people who decry all men as evil sexist rapist pigs simultaneously whine about women who actually defy gender norms but aren’t trans/nonbinary. This obviously isn’t as big an issue as trans “representation” in women’s sports, but it’s the same problem.

(it also makes very little sense for a trans/nonbinary character to be in a story taking place in the 50s but whatever)
