yeah what is that, I’ve never heard of such thing, they never existed in the first place, nor the
joking and my own biased dislike aside akb is short for AKB48, which is short for Akihabara 48 (but nobody calls them that). it’s the top japanese idol group that basically made up the concept of generic cute idols. at first there was 48 members that started performing in akihabara (hence the name) sometime in 2006 I think and as the popularity rose they added new members and understudies and sister groups and now just in the akb group there’s about 120 members. the concept is supposed to be idols that you can meet everywhere so ofc there’s local subgroups and stuff like that but I find it more of a survival show. it creeps me out a lot since how are you supposed to make yourself visible in a company that has like 500 girls everywhere? just the concept makes me cry why japan
the system is endless auditoning, then being an understudy for 3000 years, then getting into a sister group OR to a subunit of akb OR to akb itself (idk how the choosing/hierarchy works here since I’m not a fan), then getting into senbatsu (is the name I think) which are the 48 girls that actually get to appear in the music videos and sing the originals and then maybe being the center once. this is tiring as shit so most girls graduate before getting even out of the understudy group and it’s a really shady process in general.
as for the music it’s either a) really generic idol music or b) super cool and inspiring songs that don’t get popular for some reason. the singing is :/// since it’s always multiple girls singing at once. you’ll love it if you like choirs I guess. I can’t judge the dancing since there’s too many girls that I can’t see.
in all if you’re in just for the music it’s ok but if you’re a mild wota like me there’s too much material and girls. again I’m not a fan so this is still extremely biased and might have misinformation since I don’t have the time to look it all up
